Oracle Senior Cloud Operations Engineer in Olympia, Washington
Job Description
This role is primarily focused on operational responsibilities, with an emphasis on ensuring strict adherence to high compliance processes and procedures. The individual in this role will collaborate closely with cloud engineering and application engineering teams to implement automation and build robust cloud solutions. Key responsibilities include proactively managing incidents, resolving problems, and partnering with cross-functional teams to maintain efficient and effective IT operations. The ideal candidate will have expertise in implementing and maintaining ITIL processes and leveraging ITSM tools and methodologies to enhance service quality and customer satisfaction. Additionally, this role involves addressing complex infrastructure and cloud service challenges, developing long-term solutions to prevent problem recurrence, and driving continuous improvement in operational performance.

Ideal locations for candidates are the Central US and Eastern US.

Responsibilities
This person’s responsibilities will cover an array of tasks and activities including but not limited to:
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as the primary owner of IT operations controls, ensuring services meet SLAs and operational KPIs.
Participate in management and monitor the IT infrastructure applications, overseeing incident and problem management.
Drive continuous improvement in IT operations processes, including change, release, and configuration management.
Coordinate with internal and external teams to ensure effective incident response, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
Ensure alignment with IT governance and compliance standards.
Prepare and present audit evidence and documentation, addressing any findings or observations to ensure continuous operational improvement.
Troubleshooting and Incident Resolution :
Diagnose and resolve application issues on Linux systems.
Investigate and troubleshoot SELinux configurations and potential conflicts.
Work with virtual machines to ensure stability, security, and performance.
Automation and Infrastructure Management :
Use tools like Terraform , Chef , and Ansible to:
Automate server configurations.
Enforce infrastructure as code (IaC) principles.
Maintain high availability and disaster recovery by automating data replication tasks.
Monitoring and Alerting :
Configure and maintain monitoring solutions for both Linux and Windows servers.
Set up real-time alerting systems to detect and respond to processing errors.
Audit and document processes in compliance with US FedRAMP standards.
Collaboration Across Teams :
Collaborate with application developers, database developers, and QA teams to streamline automation of changes and resolve defects.
Partner with global teams to ensure seamless communication and task alignment despite time zone differences.
Performance Optimization :
Perform capacity planning and demand forecasting for infrastructure resources.
Conduct software performance analysis and system tuning to optimize resource usage and scalability.
Documentation :
Maintain detailed documentation of system settings, changes, and compliance processes.
Ensure documentation meets FedRAMP compliance standards for security and operations.
Mentorship and Continuous Learning :
Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members to enhance their skill sets.
Dedicate time to self-learning to stay updated on emerging technologies and best practices.
Cloud Services Management :
Build and manage cloud services infrastructure to support scalable and reliable deployments.
Ensure infrastructure adheres to high availability requirements and operational best practices.
Security and Compliance :
Implement and maintain secure configurations for both Linux (SELinux) and Windows environments.
Follow strict security standards required for US FedRAMP certification .
Adaptability and Flexibility :
Work variable hours to facilitate communication across global teams.
Be prepared to travel occasionally for onsite collaboration or audits.
Requirements
US Citizen
In-depth expertise in Linux
Ability to resolve issues with applications running on the linux operating system (SELinux even better)
Ability to resolve complex application data flow scenarios and issues as they arrise
Ability to diagnose and resolve complex system and cloud infrastructure issues.
Familiarity with advanced monitoring tools (Nagios, Prometheus, CloudWatch).
Comprehensive understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP).
Experience with advanced network configurations, load balancers, proxies, and firewall rules.
Extensive knowledge of web application infrastructure and cloud automation tools.
Experience with high availability configurations and data replication.
Comprehensive knowledge of containerization tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
Willing to excel in a fast-paced, challenging environment.
Be able to implement solutions when given rather generic requirements from the US Government.
Strong expertise in security principles, best practices, and compliance requirements.
Proficiency in cloud architecture, design patterns, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform.
Mastery of scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell).
Experience with automation tools like:
Puppet or equivalent
Ansible / Chef / Shepherd
Powershell (for Windows hosts)
sh / bash scripting for linux hosts
Jenkins pipelines in Groovy or equivalent
Strong expertise in security principles, best practices, and compliance requirements.
Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and lead technical initiatives.
Ability to align technical solutions with business goals and objectives.

US: Hiring Range in USD from $32.84 to $67.88 per hour; from: $68,300 to $141,200 per annum. May be eligible for equity.

Paid time off: Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non-overtime eligible) position. For employees working at least 35 hours per week, the vacation accrual rate is 13 days annually for the first three years of employment and 18 days annually for subsequent years of employment. Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
