The Community Kitchen serves a nutritious breakfast, lunch, and dinner seven days a week at our Salvation Army Site, lunch 4 days a week to teenagers at the Community Youth Services Site, and lunch 3 days a week to adults at the Drexel House site. Information and referral to housing and supportive services are available on site, including emphasis on shelter referrals in cold weather months.

The primary functions of The Community Kitchen (TCK) Community Involvement Coordinator are to coordinate volunteers, plan and implement fundraising efforts, assist in the development of a new culinary training program, coordinate food rescue efforts, maintain all necessary records and files, maintain and update a database with information and statistics, complete and submit reports, promote TCK, and provide back-up coverage for the Site Coordinator.

Responsibilities

Volunteer Coordination

  • Recruit, schedule and train hundreds of volunteers to ensure meals are completed through their efforts.

  • Developing ongoing and new relationships to bring in new volunteers as needed.

  • Maintain records of all volunteers’ information and required paperwork.

  • Maintain accurate and current information in the database for Volunteers.

  • Conducts WSP background checks for volunteers.

  • Plan and implement volunteer appreciation efforts.

  • Continue current efforts and also expand community Food Recovery efforts, rescuing good food from local food service providers. Schedule and Coordinate volunteers to drive agency vehicle to do scheduled Food Recovery pick-ups.

  • Drive agency vehicle to do Food Recovery pick-ups when needed.

  • Weigh and track incoming food and waste in a database and produce monthly reports.

  • Primary backup for the Site Coordinator

  • Prepare food, cook, serve, and clean to assure that scheduled meals are completed and assist with inventory.

    Fundraising

  • Plan and implement fundraising events, mailings, etc.

  • Grant Writing Maintain statistics needed to complete grants.

  • Search for new grant opportunities.

  • Assist and collaborate with grant writing projects as well as writing grants in coordination with the Program Manager.

  • Using a database to help coordinate, provide reports and track data as required for reporting progress and success of program to funders.

    Social Media and Marketing

  • Update and management of social media and website under the direction of the Program Manager.

  • Responsible for creating content and ideas for ads, announcements, news, and other related materials.

  • Assure consent is gathered and stored for all images and videos.

  • Assist with ad campaigns, research, marketing, etc.

  • Assist the team with training in social media and web services as needed to ensure they understand current methods.

    Provide Marketing and Public Relations services in behalf of The Community Kitchen

  • Assist in planning and implementing a new Culinary Training Program. Speak to local businesses to gain support for the program.

  • Assist in developing and obtaining ongoing funding for this program.

  • Assist in developing program schedule, obtaining access to appropriate training facilities, etc.

  • Help develop a viable social enterprise that the students can be involved in.

  • Gather and maintain all necessary records and reports for the new culinary training program as well as student files, etc.

  • While describing various needs and accomplishments, promote TCK in all relationships with potential volunteers, donors, community organizations, and public agencies.

  • Serve as one of the primary speakers for the TCK when public speakers are requested.

  • Assist the Social Service Manager in the development and implementation of marketing strategies to promote TCK and to solicit donors and volunteers including the current annual mailings and annual benefit dinner fundraising event.

    Provide Administrative Support

  • Maintain office supply stock.

  • Make routine purchase orders.

  • Complete monthly reports.

  • Generate and maintain all required program records.

  • Conduct filing and other office duties.

  • Assure all maintenance on agency vehicle and equipment are completed.

  • Process revenue, makes deposits, and sends donation acknowledgements.

  • Other duties as may be reasonably assigned.

Qualifications

  • AA Degree or at least 3 years’ experience in similar field.

  • Excellent computer skills.

  • At least 1 year of food service experience.

  • Excellent verbal and written skills.

  • Must have a current Food Handlers Permit.

  • Proof of negative TB test within past 12 months and ability to test within first six months of employment.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to work effectively as a team leader of volunteer.

  • The ability to work with a diverse group of people.

  • Ability to respond quickly to program changes.

  • Ability to lift 40 lbs.

  • Experience giving presentations, public speaking, or media work desirable.

  • Experience in social services, senior services, housing, public relations, human services, education or similar field helpful.

  • Experience in mediation, conflict resolution or problem solving skills a plus.

  • Applicant must successfully pass required background checks prior to an offer of employment.

  • Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and automobile insurance.

  • Must have an acceptable driving record per CCS’ driving policy.(required to provide current driving abstract).

  • Ability to work on evenings and weekends.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred with 2-3 years’ experience in a similar field.

  • Have a general knowledge of kitchen management including food safety, worker safety, and inventory acquisition and control.

  • Ability to use Microsoft Access and Microsoft Excel.
