Purpose

This position is focused on stakeholder consultation and engagement for origination stage projects that are within interconnection cues, with some assistance also provided to early-stage development projects. The position is responsible for project-specific engagement planning and implementation (stakeholder list, landowner events, addressing specific regulatory requirements, open house/meeting planning and materials, coordinating website and social media materials, engagement tracking and reporting). Stakeholder engagement is coordinated with a variety of project team members (e.g., lands, permitting, PM).

The employee in this role is a junior subject matter expert and requires strong interpersonal, relationship building, and negotiation skills as they will be interfacing with various stakeholders day-to-day, while traveling approximately 25% of their time. The person will receive overall guidance from the Director, Project Planning and Permitting, with input from the Senior Manager – Land and Stakeholders, but is expected to initiate, lead, evaluate and execute all significant project engagement with individual PSG 0/1 Project Developers and if required PSG 2/3 Project Managers. The position resides within planning and permitting team, but coordinates with and leverages Corporate Communications as required.

Accountabilities

• Collaborate with the Project Developers, Project Managers, permitting and planning team, and real estate team to respond to project-specific needs and priorities

• Researching, interpreting, and understanding approvals and associated public engagement requirements for federal, state, local and other regulatory agencies.

• Develop new stakeholder engagement plans for origination and development projects.

• Identify and track engagement activities with various project stakeholders (participating and non-participating landowners, public, agencies).

• Coordinate external project communication activities (such as mailouts, newsletters, websites, social media, attendance at community events, etc.).

• Engaging with a variety of project stakeholders (farming, rural, Indigenous, regulatory, elected officials, etc.)

• Proactively identify and manage stakeholder engagement opportunities and risks and communicate these items to the broader project team for action and mitigation

• Develop and coordinate ‘hand over’ plans to guide transition of project from origination to development, and development to construction, in regards to stakeholder engagement commitments and communications

Education and Experience

• University - Bachelor degree or equivalent

• Experience in the following areas: Stakeholder engagement; event planning; graphic design/layout; and communications.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to communicate complex subjects and information to a diverse audience.

• Public speaking experience.

• Self-starter that is motivated and able to work independently.

• Broad knowledge of the various stakeholder engagement initiatives and methodologies for communications and issues management.

• Broad knowledge of renewable energy industry and the various relevant stakeholder issues and challenges.

• Valid driver’s license and passport with ability to travel in Canada and the U.S. as requested

• Ability to travel (approximately 30% of time) and meet with various landowners and project stakeholders.
