Bay Area Community Resources Expanded Learning Recreational Instructor (Life Academy High School) in Oakland, California

We are currently seeking a committed and passionate Program Instructor to lead physical, and enrichment activities as part of our Expanded Learning Program at Life Academy High School in Oakland, CA. Instructors must be able to work with up to 20 youth during expanded learning hours: Mon/Tue/Thu/Fri: 3:30pm to 5:30pm & Wednesdays: 1:30pm- 6:00pm.

Benefits

  • Pay rate: $23 per hour DOE

  • Part Time: 10 + hours per week

  • Stepping stone into career in education, leadership, advocacy, social entrepreneurship and social justice

Minimum Requirements

  • Must have an (a) Associate Degree or higher, or (b) 48 or more college units, or (c) High School Diploma or GED and pass Instructional Aide exam

  • Must pass criminal background check

  • Must provide negative TB clearance

  • No experience required

  • Ability to reliably commute to Oakland, CA

  • Commitment to education equity and leadership

  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment

  • Oversee Recreational opportunities and invite student participation

  • Help oversee student interns who are supporting the space

  • Spanish language fluency is a plus but not required

  • Seeking a self-starter and a candidate with an eye for detail

Responsibilities

  • Support and maintain the emotional well-being of the students.

  • Provide a safe environment

  • Be a positive role model for struggling students

  • Have fun engaging students in lesson plans that support school-day learning

  • Run community circles based on restorative practices

  • Ability to collaborate with youth to support their learning and development (youth-driven curriculum)
