Robert Half Attorney in Oakland, California

Description

A legal continuing education non-profit has an immediate opening for a skilled California Land Use and Environmental Attorney! We are seeking a subject matter expert to assist on a contract basis with a project focusing on the California Coastal Act and navigating the California Coastal Commission and Local Coastal Programs (LCPs). This Attorney will be responsible for preparing and drafting articles, how-to guides, and templates designed to provide practical guidance to attorneys who may not specialize in working with the Coastal Commission or its adopted regulations. This project aims to provide practical guidance to attorneys who find navigating the Coastal Commission and LCPs confusing or daunting. Key areas of focus include understanding administrative procedures, resolving legal interpretation conflicts, and addressing overlaps between local jurisdictions and the Coastal Commission. If you're looking for a flexible, remote opportunity to share your expertise and enhance your career as a published author, this is the perfect role for you! This role is 100% remote; applicants must be located in California.

Responsibilities:

  • Draft short articles that address strategic considerations in navigating the Coastal Commission and working with LCPs.

  • Develop quick reference charts and checklists, such as step-by-step guides for local hearings or compliance with the Coastal Act.

  • Create how-to guides detailing processes like preparing submissions to the Coastal Commission, addressing double jurisdiction issues, or working with local staff.

  • Document best practices for handling conflicts in legal interpretation and strategies for maintaining diplomacy with Coastal Commission staff.

  • Draft form templates and reference materials, such as sample hearing documents or compliance checklists.

  • Conduct legal research as needed to ensure accuracy and clarity in all written resources.

  • Collaborate on additional content development projects as assigned.

    Requirements

Qualifications:

  • 5-20+ years’ experience practicing in California, with expertise in land use, municipal, or environmental law.

  • Significant experience with the California Coastal Act, working with the California Coastal Commission, or navigating Local Coastal Programs (LCPs).

  • Strong understanding of administrative law and its application to the Coastal Commission’s procedures.

  • An active California Bar license.

  • Exceptional legal writing skills, with the ability to distill complex legal issues into clear, actionable guidance.

  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach.

Why Apply?

  • Flexible Work Schedule: Work remotely and set your own hours (10 hours/week minimum).

  • Professional Growth: Build your reputation as a published legal author and contribute to the legal education of your peers.

  • Impact: Help attorneys navigate one of California’s most challenging regulatory environments.

  • Work-Life Balance: Enjoy the flexibility of a remote, part-time role that fits into your lifestyle.
