UPMC Infusion Nurse, Chartwell in Oakdale, Pennsylvania

UPMC Chartwell is looking for a full time Infusion Nurse to support their new Ambulatory Infusion Services team.

This position will support a new program CHOICE by Chartwell. CHOICE delivers the exceptional quality of care Chartwell is known for in an outpatient ambulatory infusion suite. Chartwell works with patients and their physician to develop a personalized treatment plan. We offer a comprehensive list of medications to manage a variety of conditions, in addition to hydration, IV antibiotics, chemotherapy, catheter care and other medications, as prescribed. The infusion RN will be responsible for providing direct patient care to include but not limited to: placement of IV access, completion of patient assessment, infusion of medication along with monitoring the patient’s condition through the infusion for signs and symptoms of adverse drug reactions. Completion of all documentation including nursing plan of cares to meet compliance and payer requirements.

This role will work eight hour shifts between the hours of 7:30 am and 8 pm, based on appointment schedule. Weekend shifts are by appointment, but this may evolve, based on the needs of the business.

Responsibilities:

  • Administer specialty and traditional IV medications and injections in the ambulatory infusion suites which includes placing venous access, monitoring vitals and any adverse reactions throughout the infusion and 30 minutes post infusion.

  • Lab draws as ordered.

  • Refilling Medtronic intrathecal pumps.

  • Maintain competency of pumps

  • Participate in Chartwell Pennsylvania's Performance Improvement Program.

  • Represent self in a professional and ethical manner at all times.

  • Attend scheduled patient care conferences, in-services, departmental meetings, etc.

  • Take on call responsibility as assigned to provide 24-hour availability and provide these services in accordance with established protocols.

  • Support the marketing efforts of the center by assisting the sales team and providing educational programs to referral sources, as requested.

  • Set high goals or standards of performance for self.

  • Display a neat, clean, professional appearance always.

  • Complete and document all required patient care documentation and reports in a timely manner including nursing plan of cares. Send documentation to physician offices to meet compliance and payer requirements.

  • Take professional responsibility for self-protection during required work in potentially hazardous situations (i.e., handling of cytoxic agents, handling of blood and body fluids).

  • Maintain courteous demeanor at all times.

  • Promote Chartwell culture by providing quality, comprehensive services to all customers through a team approach. Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively and express ideas clearly.

  • Make sure that work meets quality standards.

  • Provide infusion and other skilled nursing care to patients.

  • Provide pre-discharge patient assessments when appropriate.

  • Participate in the orientation of other nurses or center personnel, as requested.

  • Demonstrate reliability and follow-through on all assigned tasks.

  • Communicate to supervisor, physicians and other health care providers, as appropriate, any changes in the patient's condition.

  • Utilize appropriate communication lines in relaying problems, concerns, questions, and ideas.

  • Demonstrate ability to work effectively and maintain expected productivity.

  • Provide patient education for administration of medication.

  • Catheter care, and competency prior to admission to service.

  • Support home infusion program upon request.

  • Diploma from an accredited school of nursing required. B.S.N. preferred.

  • 1 year previous specialized home health experience preferred.

  • 1 year clinical experience involving infusion therapy, including patient assessment skills, and venous access skills.

  • CPR certification required. PICC training preferred.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills required.

  • Ability to assume a flexible work schedule. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

  • Automotive Insurance

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

  • Driver's License

  • Registered Nurse (RN)

*Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
