Compensation$26- 32/hr *This range reflects Carestream's good faith estimate to pay fairly as starting wage. Position Summary: The R&D Materials Analytical Laboratory Technician provides coating and testing support at the direction of the product development scientists in the Oakdale R&D Laboratory. This highly motivated technician is responsible for developing and deploying test methodologies in support of all phases of product development and commercialization. Working in collaboration with other sites, this individual will also support the development of analysis and testing capabilities for external customers. In addition, the successful candidate will assist with troubleshooting of production problems, scheduling/maintaining laboratory equipment, and enabling a professional lab environment that they will be proud of. Position Responsibilities: Materials development and post-production analytical testing for consumable products. Collaborative team member that participates to drive change our culture. Perform high end analyses and tests with instrumentation autonomously. Working with multiple Teams in process / product development, identify appropriate tests to achieve program objectives, specify test equipment requirements, coordinate acquisition of equipment. Assists in developing schedules and priorities for testing in collaboration with Scientists, development team, and cross-functional team. Support introduction of new raw materials and accreditation of raw materials changes. Record data and observations regarding lab experiments. Determine conclusions of lab experiments and plan next set of laboratory experiments primarily at the direction of the senior scientists. Consistently communicate with customers, both internal and external, to ensure expectations are understood, communicated broadly to technical support, and delivered. Report up daily - informally and formally. Proactively participate as a technical resource for all programs within area of responsibility, including New Product Development and Production Support laboratory. Escalate quality, technical, and personnel issues to appropriate leadership and request additional resources to address, as necessary. Keep a technical notebook when requested and maintain records in Technical Database. Maintain project folders for all assigned projects in compliance with applicable procedures. Initiate and participate in Environmental Health & Safety reviews for new chemicals, equipment, etc. Lead and/or participate in action teams, such as ATS, QAS, FMEA, etc. as needed. Develop and maintain procedures and training methods for analytical techniques. Maintain equipment calibrations, preventive maintenance, and workspaces. Participate in Internal and External Audits. Support preparation for QMS /EHS Audits and CAPA closure activities. Coordinate and assist with analytical equipment maintenance both in production support and product development areas. Required Skills & Education: Associate degree in any STEM field or equivalent experience p eferred. Experience level: 2+ years in production and/or development analytical laboratory environment Wet analytical chemistry experience: chromatography, spectroscopy, potentiometry, chemical composition analysis Ability to create, edit, and follow documented test methods/procedures. Ability to accurately document results. Proficient in MS Office, with Intermediate to Advanced skills in MS Excel Highly motivated individual. Ability to communicate clearly in both written and oral form to QA engineer and design chemists. Ability to prioritize workload and work independently. Desired Skills: Material properties analytical experience: thermal analysis (TGA, DMA, DSC), rheology, tensiometry, FTIR, colorimetry, electrical characteristics, particle sizing, abrasion resistance, friction, adhesion, permeability, mechanical strength, microscopy, etc. Statistical analysis, Design of Experiments, JMP / Minitab experience Green Belt certification Quality assurance methodologies Technical writing competency QMS Experience Work Environment: Traditional Office Environment Manufacturing Production & Labs Physical Requirements: Person must be willing and able to meet the following physical requirements: * Standing: 50-75% * Walking: 25-50% * Sitting: 1-25% * Bending: 25-50% * Carrying, Pushing or Pulling: 25-50% * Lifting 20-35 pounds: 1-25% * Lifting 35-50 pounds: 1-25% * Lifting 50-100 pounds: 0% Applying for a job with Carestream All applicants must complete the on-line application process.
