Environmental Scientist/Engineer

Position Summary

RSI EnTech, LLC is recruiting for an experienced Field Integration Lead who will support the Environmental Services team by coordinating and overseeing the implementation of subsurface characterization/investigation on the Oak Ridge Reservation Y-12 project footprint. The successful candidate will partner with planning and operations project managers to ensure soil characterization proceeds according to project plans and regulatory documents and will interface regularly with the Department of Energy, regulatory agencies and other site contractors.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides project oversite by working closely with field teams (characterization, labor superintendents and foremen, waste operations, etc.) to ensure work is performed in accordance with regulatory documents, regulatory agreements, and project schedule and budget

  • Reviews and interprets characterization and remedial action work plan(s) and sampling and analysis plan(s)

  • Evaluates analytical data and other quantitative and qualitative information generated by field activities to interpretate nature and extent of contamination and determine follow-on activities.

  • Works closely with an interdisciplinary team to request authorized photos of field activities and to direct creation of field and project maps

  • Reliably communicates with Y-12 operations contractor (CNS) representatives on field implementation schedule and helps facilitate and track CNS activities in working schedule

  • Provides occasional support on Y-12 deactivation and demolition projects for consultation and field walkdowns on applicable remedial action scope

  • Mentors junior environmental scientists and technicians through regular interactions and peer review of their work products

  • Regularly collaborates and attends meetings with DOE clients, regulatory agencies, and other DOE contractors

  • Spend anywhere from 25 to 75 percent of the time in the field on project oversight

Desired Qualifications

  • Must have the ability to get a DOE security clearance (i.e., Q-clearance)

  • B.S. in Geosciences, Environmental Sciences, Engineering, or other similar field

  • 5+ years of experience with environmental characterization and remediation and/or M.S. in related field

  • Demonstrated knowledge of CERCLA and other state and federal environment regulations is preferred

  • Experience on DOE projects, Y-12 projects, and/or the Oak Ridge Reservation is desirable

  • Experience with various soil sampling and drilling techniques is desirable

  • Strong communication skills

  • Ability to operate Global Positioning System (GPS)

  • Ability to operate company vehicles and be insured on corporate insurance (clean driving record)

  • Extensive knowledge of scientific/environmental engineering concepts, experience, and demonstrated ability.
