    In this role you will be entrusted to administer advanced respiratory therapies, including mechanical artificial ventilation, and various basic therapies such as intermittent positive pressure breathing, aerosol treatments, sputum induction, and postural drainage. Additionally, we will have you:

  • Accurately record treatment details on patient charts.

  • Set up, operate, and monitor all types of ventilatory support.

  • Conduct diagnostic tests for cardiopulmonary conditions, including blood gas analysis and pulmonary function testing.

  • Actively participate in resuscitative efforts as needed.

  • Clean, sterilize, assemble, and perform minor maintenance on therapeutic equipment.

  • Perform other related duties as required.

    Position Highlights

  • The full-time schedule for PCN 144407 is as follows:

  • Monday - Friday: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

  • However, flexibility is required to meet the needs of the agency.

    PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In a state hospital or institution this class is accountable for performing diagnostic testing and administering a full range of respiratory therapy with emphasis on the more difficult procedures.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Administers more difficult types of therapy (i.e. mechanical artificial ventilation) and various basic types of respiratory therapy (i.e. intermittent positive pressure breathing therapy) and aerosol, sputum induction and postural drainage treatments;

  • Records treatments on individual charts;

  • Sets up, operates and monitors all ventilatory support;

  • Performs diagnostic testing for cardiopulmonary pathology including blood gas analyses and pulmonary function testing;

  • Participates in resuscitative efforts;

  • Cleans, sterilizes, assembles and performs minor maintenance on therapeutic equipment;

  • Performs related duties as required.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

  • Considerable knowledge of

  • equipment, procedures, techniques and terminology used in respiratory therapy and related diagnostic testing;

  • technical aspects of cardiopulmonary physiology and pathology;

  • Interpersonal skills;

  • Considerable ability to work therapeutically with individuals;

  • Ability to prepare written reports.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

    Incumbents in this class must possess and maintain a license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner issued by the Connecticut Department of Public Health in accordance with the applicable Connecticut General Statutes.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Preference will be given to those who possess the following experience:

  • Experience with current COVID-19 guidance and infection control processes.

  • Experience providing guidance to clinical team members.

  • Experience working within an interdisciplinary team.

  • Experience working with the type of individuals serviced by the agency.

  • Experience with hospice and end of life care.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Candidates will be required to take a physical examination to demonstrate sufficient physical strength for efficient performance of duties.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbents in this class may be required to lift and/or adjust equipment and individuals; may have some exposure to communicable and/or infectious diseases and uncooperative or abusive individuals; may be exposed to moderately disagreeable conditions.
