TITLE: Per Diem Birth Doula

DEPARTMENT: Nuvance Health Women’s Health Division Norwalk

REPORTS TO: Director of Women’s Health Division West

Doula Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Doula to provide emotional and physical support to expectant birthing people and their families throughout the prenatal, labor & birth, and postpartum process. The Doula will see patients in our OB office for prenatal and postpartum visits as well as attend deliveries as a birth doula on Labor and Delivery at the hospital. This position will be a per diem birth doula role employed by Nuvance Health with an on-call scheduling model.

Doula Duties and Responsibilities

  • Help birthing people prepare for labor and childbirth, including providing physical and emotional support during labor and delivery.

  • Provide breastfeeding support and assistance with newborn care.

  • Educate and inform expecting parents on birthing options and techniques.

  • Assist with creating and following a postpartum plan.

  • Assist with postnatal care and recovery.

  • Make appropriate referrals to community resources and other professionals.

  • See patients in the Nuvance obstetric office for prenatal and postpartum visits.

  • Attend births at Nuvance hospitals as a doula

Doula Requirements and Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Basic computer literacy

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills

  • Compassionate and caring attitude

  • Able to work effectively with clients and other professionals.

  • Reliable and on-time for work

  • Certificate from your doula training program and confirmation that the training was at least 24 hours in length.

  • Certificate from your adult/infant CPR course or confirmation that you will complete this course prior to your start date (reimbursed by Nuvance once you are an employee).

  • Confirmation of attendance at 3 births as a doula in the past 12 months. The attached document will need to be completed by 3 patients or staff members from those births prior to your start date for submission to NY Medicaid.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience as a doula (training can be completed on the job)

  • Knowledge of childbirth techniques, labor support techniques, and postpartum care

  • CPR/AED training (can be completed on the job)

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL FACTORS

Physical: Sitting, standing, and walking for long periods of time.

Mental: Moderate stress

Salary range: $20.36 - $37.56, commensurate with experience.
