Summary:
Provides quality care and meets customer expectations by utilizing advanced technical skills in CT imaging.
Responsibilities:
Radiation Safety:
A: Follow ALARA principles and scans patient with appropriate exposure and minimal repeatability. B: Always wears radiation badge(s) to track personal exposure. C: Utilizes bismuth or lead shielding per established protocols. D: Monitors CTDI Volume to ensure appropriate dose.
Patient Identification and Screening:
A: Properly identifies patients by name/DOB as well as introducing himself/herself to the patient by first name. B: Reviews prescription for accuracy and completeness, explains procedure, answers questions/concerns and completes/initials history form. C: Obtains required bloodwork for GFR clearance and diabetic medication clearance for applicable patients. D: Verifies pregnancy status in appropriate patient population and obtains waiver as needed.
Oral and IV Contrast Administration:
A: Dispenses oral contrast to patients appropriately and gives clear instructions. B: Reviews informed consent prior to performing venipuncture for contrast and utilizes aseptic technique when starting heplocks. C: Operates power injectors following manufacturer guidelines and selects the appropriate injection protocol for the specific exam. D: Monitors injection of contrast, recognizes infiltrations promptly and communicates with the patient throughout the exam.
Image Acquisition:
A: Reviews prescription and protocol for appropriateness based on clinical information provided. B: Positions patients correctly for optimal imaging. C: Correct selection and proficiency in scanning established CT protocols. D: Covers appropriate anatomy and utilizes proper scan parameters.
Workflow and Data Accuracy:
A: Respects scheduled appointment times and communicates delays to reception staff and/or patients directly including wait times for Walk-ins. B: Reviews charge entry and notifies appropriate administrative staff with necessary changes. C: Completes charge sheet accurately ensuring the CPT4 code matches the exam performed. D: Starts and completes examination in ADS workflow and records required information on log sheets.
Exam Completion:
A: Evaluates CT images for technical quality and provides concise relevant history to the Radiologist for interpretation. B: Performs required post processing and/or transfers appropriate images to dedicated workstations. C: Ensures prior exams and reports are available for comparison. D: Scans accompanying paperwork, annotates contrast volume then verifies images in PACS.
Responding to Urgent Situations:
A: Able to recognize specific psychological (ie. claustrophobia, anxiety) and/or physical needs of patients and determine when further assistance is needed. B: Promptly responds to contrast reactions and/or other situations which require a timely response. C: Documents relevant information on adverse reaction and incident forms. D: Able to locate and use all necessary emergency equipment (code cart, oxygen, blood pressure monitor, pulse oximeter, etc).
Infection Control:
Follows universal precautions including the use of gloves, gowns and masks as appropriate. Cleans and disinfects CT suite.
Other Information:
Education:
High School Graduate or equivalent.
Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technologist Program.
Credentials:
CT State license.
American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
BLS.
Working Conditions:
Manual: significant manual skills/motor coord & finger dexterity
Occupational: Significant occupational risk
Physical Effort: Very Heavy effort. May exert up to 50 lbs. force
Physical Environment: Some exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
Salary Range: $32.23 - $59.86 Hourly
