Job Overview: The Assistant Director of Nursing supports the Director of Nursing in managing nursing services in hospitals or institutions for the physically or mentally ill. This role includes overseeing professional and nonprofessional nursing and maintenance services.
Requirements:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Nursing or Nursing Education from an accredited institution.
Experience: Five years as a registered professional nurse, including two years in a supervisory role managing nursing services or education. Two additional years of nursing experience can substitute for the Bachelor's degree.
License: Valid registration as a professional nurse in New Jersey. A New Jersey driver's license may be required for certain duties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in organizing nursing programs and establishing standards and policies.
- Participate in hiring, training, and evaluating staff. Implement in-service training and orientation programs.
- Assist in procurement, requisitioning, and planning for new or renovated facilities.
- Prepare budget estimates and manage resources.
- Collaborate with administrative and medical staff to develop patient care policies.
- Maintain records for requisitioning, distribution, and use of medical supplies and equipment.
- Prepare reports and surveys with recommendations for improvements.
- Manage emergencies effectively and maintain professional standards.
- Stay informed on industry developments to improve patient care.
Knowledge and Abilities:
- Proficient in nursing principles and methods.
- Skilled in managing nursing services and preparing medical records.
- Ability to guide staff, establish cooperative relationships, and handle emergencies.
- Capable of preparing reports and using electronic/manual recording systems.
- Proficient in English, with ASL or Braille as acceptable alternatives.
