Chevron Corporation Senior Process Control Engineer in North Salt Lake, Utah

Chevron is accepting online applications for the position Senior Process Control Engineer through July 22nd, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. (MDT).

A Process Control Engineer is a specialist in designing, implementing, and maintaining multivariable control applications (DMC3, PBM) and the applications that support the multivariable control applications (inferred properties, raman models, et al.). Additional responsibilities include tuning of control loops, support of Honeywell TDC-3000 DCS, Honeywell Experion DCS and Yokogawa, and assistance in training console operators. Requires regular communication with many work groups including Operations, Maintenance, Technical and Planning. Individual reports to the Manager, Site IT and Control Systems within the Refinery.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Serve as a specialist in designing, implementing, and maintaining multivariable control applications (DMC3) and the applications that support the multivariable control applications (inferred properties, et al).

  • Tuning of control loops, support of Honeywell or Yokogawa distributed control systems (DCS), and assistance in training console operators.

  • Implement and maintain multivariable process control applications that are consistent with short-term and long-term refinery operating plans.

  • Provide daily process control support for console operators and participate in process controls 24/7 emergency callout rotation.

  • Identify and resolve control performance issues by coordinating with colleagues in other areas of specialization (instrumentation, analyzers, process, mechanical equipment, etc.)

  • Identify and capture opportunities for improving the safety, reliability, operability and profitability of the operating area through process control improvements.

  • Train refinery personnel on the effective use of process control applications and systems.

  • Act as a mentor/resource for refinery process and control engineers. Influences and improves work processes for a global refining technical system.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of operating area interactions with the rest of the refinery and helps troubleshoot process problems in the operating area and refinery.

  • Maintain and grow process control skills by attending onsite and offsite training.

    Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, advanced degree preferred

  • Minimum of 10 or more years related experience in the refining, oil and gas, or petrochemical industries

  • 10+ years demonstrated experience with the application and ongoing support of multivariable advanced process control – DMC3 experience preferred

  • Knowledge of process control fundamentals, including design, configuration, support and programming of Honeywell and/or Yokogawa distributed control systems (DCS).

  • Strong technical/analytical skills, with proven record of innovative problem solving and proactive system improvement.

  • Ability to work with others and build relationships across organizations.

  • Ability to create and promotes an environment of trust, teamwork and inclusiveness through actions and behaviors.

  • Strong oral, written and presentation skills. Ability to communicate at all levels.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage a variety of assignments for individual team members and groups, and to set and manage priorities.
