Job Summary and Qualifications

Responsible for assisting in the operational coordination of the Hospital and Medical Staff Performance Improvement Program to ensure it is designed to efficiently ensure the continuous improvement of quality and safety of patient care, enhance appropriate utilization of resources, and the reduction/elimination of unnecessary risks and medical errors. No direct patient care functions are provided by this position. The Quality Manager works collaboratively with Hospital and Medical Staff leadership to ensure regulatory compliance in a manner that promotes a culture of learning, improvement and patient safety.

Position Responsibilities – Database Administration, Data & Reporting:

  • Serves as data resource for and administrator of existent data systems to include oversight of abstraction, data entry, inter-rater reliability testing, analysis, action & reporting of data - CHOIS Mortality & Complication, Core Measures & QualityNet, CRIMSON, National Registries (STS, NCDR), internal reporting systems, Compliance 360, etc.

  • Creates data tracking systems to ensure efficient and timely identification, review, referral and reporting of individual cases and/or system improvement opportunities into the hospital and medical staff performance improvement program and/or committees.

  • Utilizes existent or develops comprehensive reporting formats for presentation to Hospital and/or Medical Staff Committees.

  • Position Responsibilities – Quality & Performance Improvement

  • Provides leadership and supervision of the Medical Staff Quality & Peer Review process to ensure timely identification, primary, secondary and committee level review of cases is conducted and reported to the PPEC, MEC and Board, as appropriate.

  • Facilitates process improvement initiatives chartered by the Quality Council related to performance improvement teams, committees, service lines, medical staff and hospital departments.

  • Proactively seeks team building and positive working relationships with all hospital and medical staff.

  • Provides education and training to hospital and medical staff related to performance improvement methodology, data collection, analysis and use of statistical process control tools.

  • Participates in the recruitment, interview, selection, orientation and development of staff.

  • Provides support for continuous survey readiness and accreditation requirements related to federal, state and regulatory agency requirements such as Joint Commission, CMS, DSHS, etc.

  • Coordinates Quality Council and Policy Committee meetings to include – preparation of notices and meeting materials, facilitation of Hospital Committee reports, review with Chairperson, coordination of reviews, recording of minutes, coordination of follow up actions and report to appropriate committees. Maintains and is accountable for patient safety, as applicable to their job, for performance improvements related to Leapfrog incentives and National Quality Forum safe practices.

  • Manages the QA Analyst(s), Quality Review Coordinator, Stroke Coordinator, Sepsis Coordinator, IC Coordinator

What qualifications you will need:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in health care related field required. Master’s degree in healthcare related field preferred.

Experience:

  • Five years in quality, performance improvement, risk management, medical staff peer review, and regulatory/accreditation standards in healthcare setting. 

Licensure/Certification:

  • RN, RHIA, ART required. CPHQ preferred.
