Job Summary and Qualifications

What you will do:

• Demonstrates desirable work habits and promotes personal growth and professionalism in the work environment.

• ​Use therapeutic communication in daily practice.

• ​Maintain a safe and therapeutic pre-surgical/procedural area environment.

• ​Implement and direct care, using the nursing process with emphasis on the needs of individual surgical and procedural patients.

• ​Evaluate the effectiveness of the nursing process.

• ​Provide emotional support of the patient and significant others to make informed choices regarding health care.

• ​Delegate tasks to the appropriate caregiver.

• ​Participate in Surgical Services specific initiatives and process improvement.

• ​Promote a supportive Surgical Services environment.

• ​Maintain high quality (age specific) care for adolescent, adult and geriatric patients as assigned.

• ​Support the mission, vision and values of the organization.

• ​Provides pre and post-surgical care of patients ranging from adolescent to geriatrics who will have (or have had) general anesthesia, epidural/spinal anesthesia and IV sedation.

• ​Monitors all patients for pain management.

• ​Performs direct patient care in the surgical or procedural patient with duties related in developing a surgical plan of care throughout the continuum.

• ​Following competency verification, may perform and monitor conscious sedation and blood/blood products administration.

• ​Propose the plan of care for pre and post-operative/pre and post procedure patient.

• ​Promotes consistent, positive patient interactions that advance the agenda of unparalleled patient service.

• ​Demonstrates caring and empathy in all interactions and advocates for patient- and family-centered approach in all decisions and actions.

• ​Demonstrates excellent communication skills, including active listening. Ensures patients, physicians, and colleagues have a clear understanding of all communications.

• ​Engages in evidence-based best practices that enhance the patient experience, including SAFETY rounding, communication fundamentals/AIDET, Teach-Back, Narrating Care, etc.

• ​Participates as an active member of the health care team and positively promotes the rest of the team to patients/families/caregivers and other colleagues.

• ​Maintains a professional appearance and demonstrates behaviors consistent with established policies/procedures.

What qualifications you will need:

• ​Associate's degree in nursing required. Bachelor's of Science in Nursing Preferred.

• ​2+ years of OR Peds experience required.

• Adult OR experience is a plus.

• Basic Life Support (BLS) ​

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

• PALS Pediatric Adv Life Supt (PALS)

• ​Certified Ambulatory Peri-Anesthesia Nurse (CAPA) preferred.
