Amazon System Development engineer, MTAC - RMTO, Amazon Robotics in North Reading, Massachusetts

This role will report to the Manager of Manufacturing Test Infrastructure team and is a member of the Robotics Manufacturing Technical Operations team. This individual will primarily focus on developing AWS solutions for manufacturing test infrastructure and tool development to drive manufacturing production operational efficiency. You will be responsible for the scaled management of software delivery and patching. You will integrate artificial intelligence and robotics to create new inspection methods. Our System Development Engineers shall work closely with R&D, Information Technology, and Security teams to design and implement novel manufacturing automation workflows around IoT enhanced products and dashboards both within our facility and extending out into the field. These solutions are key to reducing production test costs and maintaining quality of a growing fleet of production test tools.

Key job responsibilities

• Actively foster and drive culture of inclusion.

• Develop or implement test infrastructure software, scripts, cloud-services, and processes that reduce manual efforts and increase overall efficiency of production test delivery.

• Adapt and improve operations management systems and processes to accommodate rapid and increasing growth in systems and traffic.

• Develop and maintain APIs, templates, frameworks, and procedures, develop training materials for new users, implement automated self-service tools for non-expert-software developers to champion best practices for privacy, security, and maintainability of production test products.

• Collaborate with outside teams regarding production networking needs for fleet management including automating key security and update tasks.

• Patching Automation of Windows and Linux Systems

• Propose workflow changes and new collaborative tool development projects between teams that will enhance production reliability and metric tracking.

• Persistently promote a safe working environment by following all safety procedures.

• Up to 15% travel required.

A day in the life

The Systems Development (SysDev) Engineer will integrate test systems with Amazon Web Services (AWS) databases and develop Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) frameworks for our test infrastructure and software. Their core responsibilities include processing new requests for AWS-based applications and pipelines, developing and implementing test infrastructure software, scripts, and cloud services, and creating processes to reduce manual effort and increase production test delivery efficiency. The engineer will manage new intake tickets from Technical Operations teams. This full-time, on-site position requires working five days per week at either the BOS12 or BOS27 location.

The MTAC - MTI (Manufacturing Test and Controls - Manufacturing Test Infrastructure) team's mission is to equip MTAC with the capabilities it needs to drive Amazon's product innovation forward. Basic Qualifications

  • Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processes

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, MIS, or 5+ years equivalent technology experience.

  • 2+ years of experience operating in a Windows OS environment, including configuration of networking and security.

  • 3+ years experience with Software Development Life Cycle processes.

  • 3+ years of coding experience or demonstrated Proficiency in one or more general-purpose programming languages (Python or Ruby, C++ or similar scripting languages.

  • 2+ years of experience with AWS platforms, services, design patterns, and production AWS workloads

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience utilizing AWS cloud solutions in a DevOps environment

  • • Experience with some aspect(s) of computer security: network security, application security, security protocols, privacy protocols.

  • • Developing software in an Agile environment.

  • • Experience bulding services using AWS products.

  • • Database scripting / basic analytics experience.

  • • Experience deploying or managing automation related services in cloud environments.

  • • Exposure to IoT communication models and smart networked devices.

  • • Exposure to Linux internals and operating system fundamentals.

  • • Exposure to Production / Manufacturing environments and tools.

  • • Exposure to National Instruments hardware / Software (bench top test measurement automation, NI LabVIEW, NI TestStand)

  • • Excellent troubleshooting skills.

  • • Excellent documentation skills.

  • • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
