Job Description

Role objective:

The Director Third Party Enterprise Risk Management Office provides leadership to ensure the optimal design and alignment of the enterprise risk management functions Leads the development and implementation of a risk management vision that delivers strategic thought and partnership across the enterprise. The role is designed to take an enterprise view to eliminate or reduce and insure against potential risks third party risks to AbbVie and aligns to regulatory requirements, industry best-practices and AbbVie’s risk tolerance. Creates a risk-based, growth culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement

This role is based out of our Global Procurement Hub in North Chicago, IL (via hybrid 3 days per week); remote is not available for this opening.

Describe the primary goals, objectives, functions or outputs of this position:

  • This position leads the development and execution of comprehensive third-party risk management strategy in collaboration with function-level risk teams within AbbVie..

  • Acts as representative Lead for cross-functional risk management team, fostering collaboration and ensuring alignment with AbbVie’s objectives.

  • Acts as liaison between business operations and Executive Leadership. Presents strategy objectives, risk assessments and other deliverables to the Senior Management in preparation for updates to Board of Directors

  • Leads the build of overall 3rd-party risk-relevant policy in partnership with functional risk leads and drives compliance to the policy. Builds sustainable framework for managing, tracking and reporting of the risks and mitigation approaches to minimize risk exposure.

  • Facilitates strategic and operational planning and implementation processes to assure that management is knowledgeable of process, goals, objectives and strategies.

  • Provides oversight and monitoring of senior level drivers of continuous progress toward achievement of business goals, objectives, strategies and action plan results, including:

  • operational governance forums to report operations performance, address and solve operational challenges.

  • creating central monitoring processes from an overarching viewpoint to see what can be optimized; prepared to drive that optimization. Drives continual improvement initiatives with external partners.

  • data collection, feedback efforts, and partners with other Third-Party Risk Management (TPRM) teams to drive continuous improvement on experience, process and tool.

  • applies best-in-class analytics to enable key stakeholders to make decisions and manage risk activities. Executes dashboards and supporting processes that monitor and report third party risk and performance and activities.

  • Owns organizational change management efforts for key stakeholders.

  • Build strong, collaborative relationships enabling organizational agility and innovation at all levels of management and with cross-functional third-party risk teams, including Finance, Global Security, Business & Technology Solutions, Procurement, etc. Executes best practices and standards in alignment with new developments in industry and takes steps to ensure that the company is implementing such practices where appropriate. Upholds internal and external policies, procedures, regulations and laws.

  • Acts as a Third-Party Risk Management subject matter expert both internally and externally, positioning AbbVie as a thought leader in TPRM and ensuring industry leadership in TPRM practices. Stays abreast of industry practices, advancements/trends, innovations, and benchmarks. Maintains expert presence in industry through speaking engagements and involvement in industry committees TPRM working groups. Anticipates changes to the environment and adjusts strategy accordingly. Represent AbbVie externally building critical business-to-business partnerships, for example, to drive growth and innovation within the marketplace.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred, including 12 years’ work experience

  • Minimum 5 years in a risk management leadership role in a globally focused organization

  • Strong knowledge of third-party risk management, standards, and policies formulation. Strong in financial management and organizational change management. Competent project and program management, governance formulation, and team management.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and proven ability to work effectively at senior levels of the organization. Proven ability to build and lead integrated stakeholder teams towards common goals at the enterprise level.

  • Demonstrated successful experience leading through transformational change, standing up enterprise initiatives. Ability to promote innovative ideas and accept the risks that are required to lead change. Must be comfortable with ambiguity; demonstrates problem solving and creative thinking skills, and ability to work effectively with conceptual structures, outlines and models.

  • Quality/Risk Management Certifications a plus (e.g., Industry Certifications —ASQ Certified Manager of Quality & Organizational Excellence, Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst (CERA), Certified Risk Manager (CRM), Professional Risk Manager (PRM), ASQ Risk Management Specialized Credential or equivalent experience).

Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. Salary: $172,000 - $326,500
