Aerotek Production Technician in North Chesterfield, Virginia

Job Title: Production Technician

Job Description

Essential functions include the efficient operation of the specialty chemicals plant. Candidates will work with powdered chemicals used in the polymer-making process, which are utilized in plastics and waste water treatment plants.

Candidates must be able to work at elevated heights and move consistently between four levels of the facility. Initially, candidates will shadow other operators and document processes, performing only basic tasks independently. Once trained, this position is responsible for the safe, environmentally sound, and efficient operation of the chemical plants, including utilities, bulk storage, and the warehouse.

Responsibilities include operating plant machinery and equipment, performing repetitive tasks, and remaining stationary for extended periods. This may involve opening and closing valves, monitoring instrumentation panels, and reporting findings from gauges. Candidates must be capable of dumping 10-kilo bags into containers, using basic math skills, tracking and monitoring plant data, and following procedures. Duties also include climbing ladders, operating forklifts, and lifting up to 50 lbs.

Candidates must stay current on operating procedures, emergency procedures, safety, and policies. Daily movement around the premises and between buildings, often exposed to the elements and weather conditions, is required. Candidates are expected to perform independently on assignments and precisely follow verbal and written instructions. Effective communication with all levels of staff and management is essential.

A training period of 1-2 weeks is required before starting work. Candidates must pass a physical, fit test, and pulmonary function test. They must wear a full-face respirator or Tyvek hood, and a Tyvek suit for 3-4 hours each day, exercising caution to avoid skin contact with materials.

Candidates must be able to use forklifts, industrial scales, power tools, and hand tools, and perform equipment maintenance as needed. Troubleshooting for minor maintenance defects and some electrical experience for instrumentation is preferred.
