Stark State College Surgical Technology Instructional Assistant in North Canton, Ohio
The Instructional Assistant for the Surgical Technology Program is a position that requires a highly trained and credentialed surgical technologist. This position is in direct support of the college's mission and strategic plan. The Instructional Assistant duties support the lead instructor in classroom, lab and/or clinical settings. The support may vary depending on setting and include duties such as: 1.) Provide instruction and remediation to students in the clinical practice setting in support of program faculty and program curriculum; 2.) Provide instruction and remediation to students in the laboratory setting in support of program faculty and program curriculum; 3.) Assist lead faculty in classroom instruction of specialized content; 4.) Provide individual and group tutoring in support of program faculty and program curriculum; 5.) Perform competency/practical testing in laboratory and clinical setting; 6.) Grade competency/practical testing and lab exercises; 7.) Assist faculty in simulation competencies and/or demonstrations; 8.) Assist in preparation of equipment and materials for labs; 9.) Support faculty in preparation of equipment and materials for clinical practice settings; 10.) Monitor the safety and condition of equipment; 11.) Monitor and organize inventory of equipment and supplies; 12.) Provide basic maintenance of equipment; 13.) Collect and maintain data related to program assessment for college and accreditation requirements. 14.) Assist Clinical Coordinator with site visits Minimum of Associate degree in surgical technology. Bachelor's or Master's degree preferred. Must have a minimum of 2 years working experience in the operating room in the scrub role or as an instructor in a surgical technology program or a combination of both, within the last five years. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must have current knowledge of the surgical technology discipline. Must be able to effectively communicate with diverse student populations. Must have strong organizational skills. Must have demonstrated ability of critical thinking and decision-making. Must hold current credential in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA).
