Job Description

The Volunteer Programs Specialist is responsible for customer service efforts, including supervision of student employees and coordination of Monarch Pantry and Monarch Clothing Closet volunteers; administrative functions, like record keeping and inventorying; assisting with purchasing supplies and budget monitoring; coordinating logistics for office-sponsored events, the Monarch Pantry, and the Monarch Clothing Closet; and assisting with the implementation and staffing of service events, both on and off-campus.

Working knowledge of effective customer service and problem resolution techniques. Strong computer skills to include the use a variety of software programs including word processing, spreadsheets, email, and internet browsers. Strong written and oral communication skills.

Strong interpersonal skills to establish effective working relationships with individuals of varying skill levels, cultural backgrounds, and perspectives, which includes working effectively and collegially with other staff and with supervisors. Demonstrated ability to monitor and track budget expenditures. Demonstrated ability to research and acquire items with fiscal responsibility.

Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, and staff. Demonstrated ability to recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate employees.

Demonstrated ability to prioritize in a multi-task environment and exercise independent judgment.

Special licenses, registration or certification

Valid driver’s license in good standing and insurable driving record required.

Level and type of experience

Considerable office and customer service experience working in higher education, human services, event management, or a related area. Basic working experience performing managerial, supervisory, or advising responsibilities.

Additional Considerations (supplemental knowledge, skills, abilities, education, experience, licensure, certification)

Considerable use of Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook preferred. Some experience with departmental purchasing and acquisitions experience preferred.

Some experience with assessment, including survey creation and management, Excel functions, and creation of reports.

Conditions of Employment

Given the nature of the positions in Student Engagement & Enrollment Services that provide support to student services and/or student-centered programs, the employee occupying this position may be required to work during a university closing as directed by his or her supervisor. These instances may include working from a remote location (i.e. telework, etc.).
