We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Safety Supervisor I to join our team. This role is pivotal in ensuring a safe working environment while driving continuous process improvement and fostering strong leadership and team-building values. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in safety management, process improvement, and a commitment to fostering a culture of safety and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of Safety Technicians by leading by example and promoting a culture of safety and accountability across all levels of the organization.

  • Enforce safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with team members, encouraging open communication and collaboration.

  • Facilitate team-building activities and initiatives to enhance team cohesion and morale.

  • Mentor and guide team members, providing support and resources to help them succeed in their roles.

  • Investigate accidents and incidents to determine root causes and recommend preventive measures.

  • Initiate process improvement initiatives to enhance safety and operational efficiency.

  • Identify and address training needs to ensure all team members are knowledgeable about safety protocols and best practices.

  • Utilize data and analytical tools to identify areas for improvement and implement solutions to reduce waste and increase productivity.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline processes and eliminate non-value-added activities.

  • Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, and training activities.

  • Ensure all safety documentation is up-to-date and compliant with regulatory requirements.

  • Prepare and present safety reports to management, highlighting key metrics and improvement initiatives.

  • Perform the duties of the Safety Manager in his or her absence.

  • Other duties assigned.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Typically requires a High School diploma and 6 years of experience as a Shipyard Competent Person, Safety Inspector, Supervisor, Manager, or an overall equivalent combination of education and experience, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting.

  • OSHA 10-Hour Maritime #7615: Shipyard Employment.

  • Knowledge/proficiency in OSHA and NAVSEA Standard Items requirements.

  • Strong leadership and team-building skills, with a proven ability to motivate and inspire teams.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Able to support role in a shipyard environment.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

  • During shipboard, facility and shop inspections, the Supervisor will be exposed to hot and cold temperatures, wind, rain, and snow.

  • Frequently required to stand, sit, reach, bend, climb, walk, and climb into and out of confined spaces and climb vertical and inclining ladders and stairs.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Bachelor s degree in Occupational Safety & Health.

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).

  • Lean Six Sigma Certification.

OSHA certifications in:

  • OSHA 521 Intro to Industrial Hygiene

  • OSHA 3095 Electrical Standards

  • OSHA 3115 Fall Protection

  • OSHA 5410 Occupational Health and Safety Standards for the Maritime Industry

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $58300 - $99100

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
