PruittHealth Laboratory Manager in NORCROSS, Georgia

JOB PURPOSE:

Serves patients by providing medical laboratory diagnostic and therapeutic information, products, and services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provides medical laboratory diagnostic and therapeutic information, products, and services by establishing specimen preparation procedures; developing and implementing analytical procedures; evaluating laboratory information and consulting with pathologists.

  2. Maintains medical laboratory equipment performance by establishing quality standards; developing operations, quality, and troubleshooting procedures; ensuring staff compliance; certifying instrument performance; arranging equipment replacement, service, and repair.

  3. Maintains medical laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.

  4. Maintains medical laboratory productivity by monitoring workload of functional areas; identifying peak and slack periods; making operational or staffing adjustment.

  5. Maintains quality results by participating in the PruittHealth quality assurance program; consulting with Lab Director; performing proficiency surveys; reviewing quality control and quality assurance programs; updates to policy and procedures; generating reports and maintaining records.

  6. Maintains medical laboratory information system by identifying information needs and problems; recommending improvements; establishing priorities; testing; writing user manuals; training employees; maintaining security and confidentiality.

  7. Implements new programs, tests, methods, instrumentation, and procedures by investigating alternatives; preparing proposals; developing and performing parallel testing; monitoring progress.

  8. Maintains medical laboratory staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees.

  9. Completes operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees; following up on work results.

  10. Maintains medical laboratory staff results by counseling and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.

  11. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

  12. Complies with state and professional continuing education licensure requirements by providing in-service programs; monitoring outcomes.

  13. Resolves problems by consulting with Lab Director, other laboratory partners, technical coordinators, physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals; attending committee meetings.

  14. Bills for services by completing requests for service; monitoring billed units; providing the billing office with service codes.

  15. Contributes to team via building strong relationships within the PruittHealth Model of Care and Interdisciplinary Team.

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:

Bachelor’s degree in desired field

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

5 + years’ experience in a Lab as a supervisor

MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:

Lab Certification

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: (Preferred qualifications)

• Background or prior involvement in CLIA High Status

• Proficiency in LIS systems and interoperability, Orchard preferred.

• Background or prior involvement in the re-certification process through Joint Comissions.

• Background in either oversight or prior involvement in implementing Microbiology.
