Norton Sound Health Corporation Manager of Forensic Nursing Services in Nome, Alaska

Purpose of Position:

Manages and coordinates the administrative and service responsibilities of the SANE/SART Program (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner and Sexual Assault Response Team) including: direct patient services, supervision of the SANE team, domestic violence forensic services, community education; Grant management.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs medical-forensic assessment, examination, patient care and documentation per the SANE/SART Program Policies and Procedures and Medical Standing Orders
  • Management of the funding grants, including program development, goal achievement, progress reporting, budgets, communication with agencies and attendance at grant meetings
  • Maintain 24/7 coverage for patient care by managing the On-Call schedule for trained providers
  • Supervise the performance of the trained providers, including mentoring, clinical education, and facilitating quarterly team meetings for case review, quality assurance, and quality improvement
  • Develop and provide education regarding the medical forensic response to sexual assault and domestic violence
  • Supervise and assist community educators to develop and provide community outreach and education
  • Assist with the coordination of the Bering Strait Region Sexual Assault Response Team and the Multidisciplinary Team, including coordinating meetings and leading case review and quality improvement initiatives
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge:

Job Specific knowledge is listed below:

  • Knowledge of the process of the medical-forensic exam, including forensic photography, evidence collection and documentation
  • Knowledge of the purpose and function of the Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) for Adult/Adolescent patients and the Multidisciplinary Team for pediatric patients
  • Knowledge of the current research in evidence-based treatment for patients with a history of sexual assault/abuse and domestic violence
