Niobrara Public School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Librarian to support our small, vibrant district and work closely with our wonderful students. The ideal candidate will play an integral role in fostering a love for reading, assisting students with checking out books, and maintaining an organized library environment. The librarian will curate a diverse collection of books and resources, ensuring that students have access to quality materials for both educational and recreational reading.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist Students with Book Selection:
Provide guidance and support for students in selecting age-appropriate books based on their reading interests and academic needs. Assist in checking out and returning books, ensuring a smooth and efficient process.
Organize and Maintain Library:
Ensure that books and materials are properly organized, cataloged, and easy to access. This includes shelving books, maintaining the order of library resources, and monitoring inventory.
Curate Library Collection:
Develop and curate an appropriate, diverse, and engaging collection of books and educational resources that support the school curriculum and cater to a wide range of interests and reading levels.
Promote Reading and Literacy Programs:
Plan and implement activities or programs that promote reading and literacy, encouraging students to develop a lifelong love of reading.
Library Management:
Oversee the daily operations of the library, manage checkouts, track overdue books, and assist students in using library resources effectively.
Collaborate with Teachers:
Work closely with teaching staff to integrate library resources into the classroom curriculum, offering support for research projects, reading assignments, and special learning activities.
Provide Technology Support:
Assist students in using any available technology, including computers or online databases, to enhance learning and research skills.
Create a Welcoming Environment:
Maintain a positive and welcoming atmosphere in the library that encourages students to visit regularly and feel comfortable exploring new books and ideas.
Communication:
Communicate with parents and staff regarding library programs, new book arrivals, or special events.
