Hatch is currently seeking a highly motivated Senior Structural Engineer to join our hydropower and dams team in Niagara Falls. This is a position for which your focus will be to support and execute hydropower and dam related projects and ensure technical excellence within the existing team.

In the Niagara Falls office you will have the opportunity to be involved in some of the most exciting hydropower and dam projects worldwide. You will be part of a hydropower team that includes experts recognized across the industry, and you can spend your out of office life in a beautiful small city that draw millions of visitors every year.

As the successful candidate, you will:

  • lead engineering projects and provide consultation in the design, construction, and maintenance of hydropower and dam facilities.

  • perform structural analysis to evaluate the integrity of existing dam structures and the feasibility of new projects.

  • collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including geotechnical, environmental, and construction specialists to ensure project goals are met.

  • prepare technical reports, engineering calculations and design documents.

  • maintain structural engineering work procedures, specifications, and computer aided design programs.

  • prepare technical specifications for a variety of structural engineering tasks involving construction and/or rehabilitation of concrete and steel structures for hydroelectric generating stations, substations, and dams.

  • perform dam safety reviews.

  • stamp documents and drawings as required.

  • perform site visits to various client sites for review, inspection, and assessment of existing structures.

  • assist in preparing proposals.

    You bring to the role:

  • strong leadership and communication skills.

  • a recognized degree in civil/structural engineering from an accredited college or university.

  • registration as a professional engineer. Alternatively, registration as a candidate professional engineer actively working towards professional registration.

  • 10+ years of project engineering experience.

  • at least eight years of experience working on hydropower projects involving:

  • stability analyses of dams and other related structures.

  • analysis and design of hoist supporting structures and hoist towers.

  • design of powerhouse structures including turbine foundations.

  • design of penstocks.

  • design of gate structures including vertical gates, radial gates, bulkheads and stoplogs.

  • balance of plant design for hydroelectric facilities including design of concrete and steel structures, platforms, cranes, and monorails.

  • sound understanding of design engineering codes and technical standards.

  • experience with MathCad, Staad Pro, SAP2000 or similar structural analysis software.

  • experience in the use of procedures and workflows for the execution of projects.
