POSITION SUMMARY: Prepares dining rooms and food carts for service. Prepares beverages and receives food from preparation areas based on individual resident needs. Clears tables in dining room and transports carts to units. Responsible for weekly and daily cleaning duties. Unloads and organizes incoming stock and replenishes supply inventory in kitchen area.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS

A. Job Knowledge and Role Responsibilities:

  1. Demonstrates knowledge of age specific developmental factors specific to adult and geriatric residents.

  2. Demonstrates knowledge, skills and techniques necessary to prepare meals with the following needs: regular and therapeutic diets along with consistency modifications.

  3. Attends all mandatory in services by employee’s anniversary date.

  4. Acts appropriately under the direction of the Food Service Director and/or Designee and acts as an active member of the interdisciplinary team.

  5. Assists in the preparation and portioning of meal items according to menu and diet requirements.

  6. Assists in the service of meals in accordance with sanitation standards and proper diet requirements.

  7. Reviews menus for special diet needs prior to meal.

  8. Maintains standards of meal service:

a) Food distribution to the units

b) Timing of meals

c) Taste and presentation of meal

d) Portion control

e) Service schedule and technique

  1. Prepares, pours and serves beverages for meals and nourishments along with restocking beverage supplies (drinks, juices, etc.) as needed.

  2. Prepares cold food as needed.

  3. Serves in the dining room or sets up trays according to menu and diet requirements and prepares for service to the units and dining rooms.

  4. Delivers carts to units.

  5. Clears and cleans tables, resets tables with condiments, utensils and dishes for next meal.

  6. Returns carts to the dish room, strips trays, washes trays and carts. Cleans dish room equipment and floors after each meal.

  7. Demonstrates responsibility for the upkeep and cleanliness of all equipment used as well as the coolers and freezers.

  8. Assists in care and maintenance of all equipment. Operates kitchen equipment as necessary.

  9. Assembles nourishments and ensures delivery to stations.

  10. Performs cleaning assignments in kitchen and serving areas as scheduled and directed.

  11. Ensures resident and customer satisfaction according to resident likes and dislikes.

  12. Demonstrates ability to adjust shift assignments to meet resident and facility needs.

  13. *Assists with meal service, reports directly to the Dietary Supervisor during resident mealtime.

  14. Demonstrates knowledge of and complies with the Code of Conduct and Corporate Compliance Program when performing work functions.

B. Role Responsibilities – Interpersonal Skills:

  1. Is aware of, and adheres to, Resident’s Bill of Rights and Confidentiality of Resident Information.

  2. Interacts with residents, family members, co-workers, clinical and ancillary staff in non-judgmental, supportive and calm manner.

  3. Addresses resident and family satisfaction issues immediately by reporting them to the Supervisor in a professional manner.

  4. Is aware of Resident Abuse Reporting Law.

  5. Participates as assigned in the orientation of new staff and demonstrates a positive, helpful and enthusiastic attitude.

C. Role Responsibilities-Safety:

  1. Demonstrates ability to locate emergency equipment (i.e. fire extinguisher, etc.).

  2. Understands and demonstrates knowledge of role in Fire and Disaster drills.

  3. Demonstrates ability to identify and respond appropriately to potential behavioral outbursts.

  4. Uses facility equipment safely.

  5. Recognizes, removes, and/or reports potential hazards.

  6. Follows established safety rules/accident prevention.

  7. Observes rules of safety at all times and is alert to safety hazards to self and co-workers.

D. Role Responsibilities – Infection Control

  1. Maintains proper food, cooler and freezer storage.

  2. Demonstrates proper hand washing techniques.

  3. Maintains proper food handling techniques and ensures glove usage, as appropriate.

  4. Disposes of waste properly.

  5. Understands and maintains kitchen sanitation procedures.

  6. Ensures appropriate food temperature.

  7. Follows procedures regarding compliance with departmental dress code.

E. Role Responsibilities – Resident Dignity:

  1. Addresses residents in a respectful manner.

  2. Discusses confidential resident information in appropriate areas only.

F. Other Duties as Assigned by Food Service Director, Dietary Supervisor or Designee.
