Trinity Health Registered Nurse Emergency Dept. Nights in NEWTON, Iowa

Description:

The registered nurse plans and provides direct and indirect care in the emergency care setting. He/She coordinates care with other disciplines, consults with the family or significant others and collaborates with the physician on the patient’s behalf. Able to triage safely, rapidly, and accurately, every patient that enters the emergency care setting. Able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in patient condition or response to treatment. The RN assesses, implements and evaluates nursing care. The RN is responsible for supervision of Emergency Department Technicians and Dept. Support Assistants. Hours are 1830-0630 Monday-Thursday with weekend rotations depending on current staffing needs.

QUALIFICATIONS: Understands and is able to apply the nursing process. Must be able to read, write and follow written and oral instructions in English. Skilled in meeting the growth and development needs of infant, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient groups. Possesses knowledge and understanding of cognitive, physical, emotional, and chronological maturation processes of these patient groups. Maintains BCLS certification and attains ACLS, TNCC and PALS within 1 year of hire. NRP strongly encouraged.

EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

· Nursing experience in an Emergency Department, critical care unit or pre-hospital setting preferred.

· Basic computer knowledge and experience encouraged

LICENSURE: Current Iowa Registered Nurse license is required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

· Adheres to standards of care for respective nursing units and utilizes the nursing process. Demonstrates understanding of EMTALA and COBRA and adheres to those laws.

· Demonstrates nursing knowledge, critical thinking and judgment concerning patient care delivery.

· Demonstrates ability to establish priorities and organize effectively.

· Demonstrates competence in the clinical practice area.

· Assumes responsibility for own professional growth and continuing education.

· Demonstrates professional written and verbal skills.
