Functional Description: Systems Safety applies engineering and management principles, criteria, and techniques to achieve acceptable mishap risk, within the constraints of operational effectiveness and suitability, time, and cost throughout all phases of the system life cycle. The fundamental objective is to identify, eliminate or mitigate, and document systems hazards. Performs system safety analyses of hardware, firmware, and software in combat systems.

Duties Include: P reparing and/or updating safety assessment reports and hazard assessment reports. Reviewing and analyzing system safety management and program plans, safety analyses, accident and incident data, mishap investigation reports, safety test plans and results, and other ESOH related data. Performing operational analyses and studies to identify potential deficiencies in combat systems and making specific recommendations for their resolution.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the Weapon Launcher System Safety Plan of developed products and systems in support of Combat Control Systems integration of payload systems for various Navy platforms to ensure system safety guidelines are established.

  • Participate leading and engaging in various safety planning activities to ensure compliance among various asynchronous system upgrades.

  • Responsible for the development of safety analyses, technical data packages and presentations for submission to cognizant Safety Review Boards.

  • Responsible for life cycle system safety development.

  • Participate in safety working group meetings, performing Engineering, Test and Analysis of complex systems, reporting hazard findings, and briefing various technical Review Boards as necessary.

  • Safety review of Instructional documentation related to the transportation, installation/removal, operation, maintenance and repair of undersea weapon systems and components to ensure instructions do not direct unsafe processes, and contain appropriate notes, warnings, and cautions to ensure operator safety. This includes shipboard and shore-based Technical Manuals, Operator Instructions, and repair bulletins.

  • Safety review of Top-Level Requirements, Analysis of Alternatives, and other project/program-related decision aids.

    Skills Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or five (5) years or more experience

  • Experience conducting System Engineering Analysis, System Safety Analysis, Risk Management and/or Hazard Analysis

  • Experience with MIL-STD 882E

  • Experience working with US Navy combat systems, launchers, or ammunition.

  • Experience operating, maintaining, testing, or analyzing combat systems or complex mechanical or software systems

    Education Required: Bachelor’s Degree.

    Experience Required: Five (5) years or more experience.

    Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. Due to the sensitivity of customer-related requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required.
