Bailey Nurseries, Inc. Nursery Worker-Seasonal Production Lead in Newport, Minnesota

Need 17 full time, temporary, and Seasonal Production Lead Greenhouse/Nursery Workers to work in Newport, MN. From: 01/27/2025 to 11/21/2025 Work: 40 hrs./week, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Height of the season: may work up to 48 hrs./week Mon.-Sat. 8 hrs./day. Overtime: In MN hours worked in excess of 48 hours in a work week will be paid at 1.5 times the regular rate of pay. Bailey Nurseries Grower's Inc., will pay an overtime rate of 1.5 times the basic rate after 40 hours per week. Effective Jan 1, 2024, per MN State Statute, an employee will earn one hour of paid sick and safe time for every 30 hours worked, up to at least 48 hours of accrued Earned Sick and Safe Time (ESST) per year, provided the employee works a minimum of 80 hours in a calendar year. JOB DESCRIPTION: Assist production Forepersons in operations leading crews, distributing and monitoring work required to produce and distribute plant material in a wholesale nursery operation. Lead proper planting, growing, maintaining, and harvesting of Bare Root plant material. Lead grading and distribution of bare root plant material. Assist Foreperson with propagation, growing and distribution of seedlings and young liner material. Lead potting and irrigation crews. Lead the maintenance and distribution of containerized plant material. Assure accurate and timely shipments of nursery products, working with Shipping Foreperson and Sales, Inventory and Central Dispatch organizing and distributing the necessary paperwork. Support Shipping Foreperson with direction of order pulling crews, loading crews, and tagging crews. Monitor safety practices. Fill in with general labor when needed. Assist with time keeping and work schedule maintenance. Maintain records to measure productivity and help ensure processes are maintained. Train new and existing employees to maintain maximum productivity and safety. Perform routine preventative maintenance to ensure that structures are operating efficiently. May drive other Nursery Workers from employer designated meeting point to designated worksites within the area of intended employment using a 15-passenger van and Bailey vehicles (Ford F150, SUV).Workers may be requested, but will not be required, to work as much as twelve (12) hours per day or on the Sabbath and/or on Federal holidays. JOB REQUIREMENTS: 6 mos. experience working in a wholesale nursery handling both manual and machine tasks OR documentation of six months of educational/vocational training in horticulture/agriculture. Exposure to extreme temperatures, extensive sitting or walking, stooping or bending over, repetitive movements. Lift and carry items weighing up to 60 lbs. Able to recognize species and varieties of nursery stock ref. to grades/qualities for selection. Able to understand verbal/written instructions. Able to pass criminal background check. No HS/GED required. Driver's license required. EMPLOYER ASSURANCES: Work guaranteed for 3/4 of contract period, starting with date of arrival at work site. Employer provides free housing for workers whose residence is beyond normal commuting distance. Employer pays inbound transportation and subsistence to work site upon 50% completion of work contract for workers whose residence is beyond normal commuting distance. Daily subsistence will be provided at a rate of at least $15.88 per day during travel to a maximum of $59.00 per day with receipts.
