Baggage Control Room Scheduling Operator
to join our team as soon as possible. This shift-based position is the second operator in the baggage handling control room covering the operational aspects of the baggage handling system such as resource allocation and communication of baggage and flight data. The Scheduling Operator is also the shift lead in charge of overall baggage operations. Based in the same BHS control as the BHS System Operator this job deals with the operational and data part of the baggage services. The position requires to allocate flights to the existing make-up resources. The operator produces an allocation schedule 24 hours in advance and carries out changes to the schedule if required due to flight delays or other occurrences dictated by the flight schedule. The operator then communicates these changes to the concerned parties such as the airline, the ground handler and the ITOCC. This position requires constant communication with the baggage services stakeholders and is the BHS contact to the outside world. The telephone extension at the scheduling operators work place in the control room is the one-stop-shop BHS contact for all other organizations and departments.
Your Future Responsibilities
Scheduling and allocation of make-up carousels to flights
Sets opening and closing times of flights make-up as per airline requirements
Reacts to changes from the actual flight table (e.g. delay or early departure and arrival or flights) by updating the make-up allocation and the EBS management
Monitors baggage make up chutes, the Late Bag Piers and the Problem Bag Piers
Allocation and control of the early bag storage lines
Carries out ad hoc assignments whenever requested by the handling companies, carriers or state security and safety authorities or as necessary due to the flight schedule (e.g. delays of flights)
Monitors continuously the flight situation
Receives calls from BHS stakeholders and provides information on baggage date and the whereabouts and status of bags
Liaises with the baggage handling companies and the carriers on a regular basis
Liaises with the APOC operators allocating check-in counters
Liaises with the APOC operators allocating reclaim baggage carousels
Monitors the dynamic signage in the baggage halls (BIDS)
Monitors the reception of Baggage Source Messages
Ensures undisrupted baggage flows
Adjusts operation and allocation of resources to the maintenance plan
Communicates occurrences of operational impact to Duty Manager and stakeholders
Constant coordination with the SCADA Operator
Retrieves statistics such as bag counts and screening data from the systems and reports them to the BHS Analyst in the required format
Maintains a log of events in the BHS control room logbook (manually and electronically)
Ensures compliance with agreed standard operating procedures (SOPs)
Shall never leave the position unattended. Comfort pauses such as meal or toilet breaks will be covered by the SCADA Operator
Your Education & Training
Bachelor’s Degree in an aviation-related or any of the BHS disciplines preferred
Experience in operating automated systems
Experience in leading baggage operations
Your Skills & Experience
Able to make decisions by taking into consideration EWR Terminal One’s standard operating procedures, safety regulations, and service agreements.
Able to understand complex sequences of operation and launch the process to be executed when necessary.
Analytical thinking
Excellent knowledge in standard PC application software
