What You'll Get To Do:
This position will be right at the nerve center of the Panasonic division (called the Electric Vehicle Battery Business Office), which is involved in all stages of the customer’s development lifecycle and experienced using various methods of communications to connect with customers. We are looking for dynamic team players who eventually can acquire deep knowledge of battery cell technology and become independent at building technical presentations, leading product demonstrations, and educating customers (from working-level engineers to executive leadership) on the best way to support current and next-gen cell development.
Exceptional technical knowledge, exceptional business/EV market insight, and a strong negotiation ability are essential to perform in this role. Strong ability to explain complex technical topics to customers is also essential. Collaboration is necessary across functions and/or business units such as Engineering, Procurement, Factory Operation, and Quality in both Japan & the US.
The Staff Engineer, SE Strategy be responsible for maintaining a strong relationship with our automotive customers, and use the background knowledge gained from those customers to take a lead role coordinating with our engineering counterparts in Japan to guide future cell development to ensure that our roadmap is in line with customer/market needs and expectations. They will also be responsible for working with all of the working level Sales Engineers and Program Managers, as well as our Japan Engineering counterparts to ensure that the explanations of our cell development and cell validation are in line with the customer’s expectations and are appropriate to drive our programs forward in an effective manner. The Staff Engineer, SE Strategy is seasoned professional with lithium-ion battery sales experience, who can communicate effectively with potential automotive customers and with internal teams to ensure that program outcomes meet customer expectations. They must be able to act as a leader for the less experienced Sales Engineers and ensure that our team can collectively drive toward productive outcomes with our customers. They should have a broad range of technical knowledge related to lithium-Ion battery engineering and production, including lithium-Ion cell chemical design, mechanical design, lithium-ion battery production, lithium ion battery quality systems, etc. They will also need an unimpeachable knowledge of the EV and battery cell markets, and communicate that knowledge to various internal teams.
Key Accountabilities
Customer/Factory Visits and Meetings (30%):
Participate engineering and quality conversations with our customer and negotiate towards outcomes beneficial to Panasonic.
Travel to the customer, both to their facilities and to our facilities and locations, in order to communicate in person.
Completely understanding the requests and needs of the customer and ensure that those needs are communicated effectively to internal teams and stakeholders, plant teams, engineering teams in Japan, procurement, and commercial teams
Communicate with customer’s cell engineering and supply chain management teams to develop new battery cells, resolve product development issues, and execute cost reduction related programs.
Engineering Leadership Internal Responsibilities (70%):
Working with Japan and US engineers to manage engineering projects and ensure that cell meet customer demands.
Analyze cell data, and perform cell teardowns etc., in order to generate new specifications for cells under development.
Work with the more junior members of the sales engineer team, and help to develop their technical knowledge related to lithium ion batteries.
Other responsibilities may be assigned by leadership as required.
Understand and synthesize customer request and roadmaps, and develop strategies to influence the direction of Panasonic’s cell development programs.
Build rapport with our customer’s and gather off-line information to accurately direct and guide Panasonic’s cell development strategy.
Responsible for building taking customer and market information and building strategies that will be regularly – on a quarterly basis - input to Japan engineering leadership. Be a strong voice that ensures that the US and overall market perspective is heard and considered when cell development decisions are made.

Education and Experience:
Basic/Required: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, (Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial etc.), Science (Physics, Chemistry, Earth Science, etc.)
4-6 Years of Engineering Experience Required.
Essential Qualifications:
Must demonstrate a strong work ethics and a strong desire to learn and advance in the battery and electrification space.
A passion to serve the customer.
Ability to travel to customer and internal corporate locations at the direction of leadership.
Ability to multi-task and drive multiple projects through the solutions cycle effectively; Proactive and diligent on prospect/customer follow-up .
Ability to work well with colleagues, influence, motivate and drive the teams to completion.
Effective time management Skills.
Exceptional knowledge in lithium-Ion battery design and production.
Deep understanding on the electric vehicle and lithium-ion battery market and landscape.
Ability to synthesize market trends and present them in an understandable way to internal and external stakeholders.
Ability to build strong rapport with internal and external stakeholders and sway them to your point of view.
Ability to lead and educate more junior sales engineers.
Ability to quickly synthesize information and communicate that information effectively.
Exceptional strategic mindset.
Strong ability to be culturally sensitive and work productively with our Japan counterparts.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to cooperate and work with related departments including those overseas in Japan.
Must be confident providing knowledge to a highly skilled and experienced audience.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Word and have the ability to use the computer to complete online learning requirements for specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment.
Statistically literate with the ability to analyze cell information to generate cell specifications.
Knowledge of fundamental industrial and quality concepts including; DOE, Fault Tree Diagrams, 8D, APQP, PCR, etc.
Communication/Languages:
Must have excellent communication skills in the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English.
An ability to quickly communicate complex ideas around technical topic and schedule related topics, for example, on the fly at a whiteboard.
Other Requirements:
The employee may on occasion be called to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and possibly up to 40 pounds.
Business Travel may be required up to 30%
