Our students earn competitive national and regional post-graduate public interest fellowships, and successfully pursue public sector careers as changemakers. Posting Summary
Rutgers University-Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking a Senior Program Administrator, Pro Bono and Public Interest Program. Reporting to the Associate Dean, this position aids in Rutgers' fulfilling its mission as New Jersey's public law school, training and encouraging students to become public sector and social justice lawyers and/or to perform pro bono work as part of their private sector careers. Section 302(b)(2) of the American Bar Association Standards for the Approval of Law Schools requires that a law school shall offer substantial opportunities for student participation in pro bono activities.
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:
  • Manages law school pro bono and public interest activities, primarily on the Newark campus
  • Helps law students understand, develop, and deliver remedies for the legal needs of people who have low income and/or are socially and politically disenfranchised
  • Oversees pre-professional activities that assist students in obtaining internships and long-term employment in the public sector in partnership with the Center for Career Development
  • Directs or co-directs a variety of pro bono and public interest initiatives, primarily in Newark, and also engages in broader public interest efforts for the benefit of students across the law school community

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Earned Juris Doctor degree
  • 3-5 years of experience working as a lawyer in the public, not-for-profit or government sector(s) and/or in a law school pro bono/public interest or comparable program

Certifications/Licenses
  • Member of the New Jersey or another Bar or ability and willingness to gain NJ admission within 12 months of hire
