Qualifications:

Required:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing with an Associates Degree or Diploma in Nursing

  • Minimum (2) two years experience in Cardiac Surgery/Cardiology Specialty

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Goal and outcome oriented

  • Proficient computer skills

Preferred:

  • BSN

  • Experience with insurance process/managed care and practice management

Certifications and Licenses Required:

  • Active NJ RN license or compact RN license with NJ endorsement

  • BLS from the American Heart Association

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Day Shift 8a-6p

  • Full Time 37.5 hours per week

  • Monday Friday

Essential Functions:

  • Organizes, plans, coordinates the operational activities for case scheduling for the Department of Cardiac Surgery.

  • Monitors and schedules resources for providers who utilize the department.

  • Communicates and provides information for transfers, pre-authorizations, and resources needed for case load.

  • Acts as a liaison for the department and outside referrals. Provides support for clinical information systems.

Other Duties:

  • Communicates and plans for next day and weekly scheduled cases

  • Books cases with appropriate OR process at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center

  • Initiates process for pre-authorizations and authorizations, provides initial coding for process

  • Produces daily and weekly reports and communication

  • Communicates to cardiac team new consults and transfers

  • Communicates coverage needs to anesthesia, OR, perfusion, PA's, cath lab, and physician needs for back-up cases

  • Maintains open lines of communications with referring physicians and appropriate office staff

  • Coordinates clinical conferences as needed

  • Assist with other department needs as necessary
