Position Summary:

The Center for Solar-Terrestrial Research (CSTR) of the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) invites applications for a part-time research assistant position in data analysis for magnetospheric and ionospheric studies. The successful candidate will make use of various data sets including, but not limited to, spacecraft data such as Van Allen Probes, MMS, THEMIS, GOES and Cluster, and ground-based instruments such as magnetometers, auroral imagers, riometer, GPS and incoherent scatter radars to investigate solar wind-magnetosphere-ionosphere coupling processes.

Essential Functions:

The successful applicant will work primarily with Dr. Hyomin Kim, Assistant Professor of NJIT and be expected to perform the duties of a research assistant, including processing and analysis of data from various spacecraft and ground-based instruments using computer programming tools such as Python, IDL and Matlab. The successful candidate will be highly encouraged to present scientific results at scientific conference(s).

Prerequisite Qualifications:

  • Basic understanding of math, physics, and data processing using programming languages, good verbal/written communication skills.

  • At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
