Posting Summary
Rutgers University-Newark, an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking a Business Manager III Supervisor for the School of Arts and Sciences-Newark (SASN). Reporting to the Senior Business Manager in the Dean's Office, School of Arts and Sciences-Newark (SASN). The Business Manager III Supervisor provides a variety of business services including budget and financial planning, procurement, accounting, and grant administration to a portfolio of academic departments and programs of the School of Arts and Sciences Newark (SASN). Responsible for team of staff covering different departments and programs and all of their activities, ensures all functions performed accurately, thoroughly, within appropriate and relevant deadlines, and in compliance with all applicable policies and processes.This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:
  • Prepares, reviews and analyzes financial data; forecasts and develops budgets; prepares monthly closings and reports; resolves a diverse range of problems consistent with an understanding of mission, vision, role and goals of the SASN and consistent with a comprehensive understanding of accounting in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Must be able to multitask and manage several complex projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, customer-focused, team environment with an understanding of the mission, vision, role, and goals of the Departments, SASN, and RU-N.

Work Arrangement
Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Requires a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and understanding of general accounting principles and practices.
  • Also requires a minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in a financial/accounting function, excellent communication skills, and computer literacy.
  • Ability to establish and maintain continually evolving relationships with a variety of individuals, coordinating multiple activities is necessary.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must have demonstrated competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports; and knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal, and reporting principles.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to take initiative and independently, plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work in various situations where numerous and diverse demands are involved.
  • Ability to analyze data, information, and objectives; identify patterns, concerns, issues, problems, needs, tendencies and relationships; formulate logical and objective conclusions; recognize alternatives and their implications; and make sound decisions or recommendations.
  • Ability to anticipate problems and to address them proactively.
  • Must be able to multitask and manage several complex projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, stakeholder-focused, team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree preferred.
Equipment Utilized
  • Regularly uses all software, systems, and equipment necessary to provide effective and efficient support for budget, financial, and grant administration, including but not limited to MS Office Suite, Cornerstone, Discoverer/Tableau, RAPSS, ECRT, Employment Eligibility Verification I-9, and any and all systems the University uses for budget, accounting, procurement, proposal submission, and grants administration.
  • Must be familiar with or learn all the equipment, software, and specialized materials needed to support the effective and efficient performance of this position now or in the future.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • SASN is a highly complex, fast-paced, deadline-driven, stakeholder-focused, team environment with requirement to skillfully and professional handle multiple shifting priorities, and to interact successfully with a wide range of individuals at all levels of the University.
  • Must be able to handle interruptions and quickly reestablish focus on the multiple tasks at hand on a continual basis.
