Position Summary:
The Broadening Participation in Computing (BPC) Research Project Manager will play a critical role in supporting the Director of BPC Research Projects and the BPC Research Leadership Team in research-related activities of national initiatives focused on broadening participation in computing. This position will primarily focus on managing the research design, data collection, analysis, and reporting for various BPC research projects, in addition to overseeing day-to-day project operations. The role will ensure the successful execution of research initiatives, conferences, webinars, and programs that aim to enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion in computing education and research. This is a highly collaborative position that requires close interaction with internal and external stakeholders to drive impactful research outcomes.
Essential Functions:
-Research Project Management: Manage the planning, execution, and delivery of BPC research projects, including those focused on student success, faculty development, and increasing diversity in computing. Ensure research projects align with institutional and national goals for broadening participation in computing.
-Coordination with Research Teams: Coordinate the activities of the BPC research leadership team, ensuring that research milestones, timelines, and deliverables are met. Collaborate closely with faculty, researchers, and other key stakeholders to facilitate the development and execution of research projects.
-Strategic Research Planning: Work with the Director and leadership team to design new research initiatives aimed at broadening participation in computing. Support the development of grant proposals and research strategies to obtain funding for BPC-related research projects.
-Data Collection and Analysis: Support the collection, management, and analysis of both qualitative and quantitative data from BPC research initiatives. Collaborate with the evaluation team to provide research-driven insights into the effectiveness of BPC programs and interventions.
-Research Reporting: Contribute to the preparation and dissemination of research findings by drafting reports, academic papers, and presentations for internal stakeholders, as well as external audiences, including academic conferences, publications, and funding agencies.
-Stakeholder Communications: Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, including faculty, researchers, and community partners, to facilitate the exchange of information related to ongoing research projects. Help draft research-related communications, including newsletters, event updates, and research summaries.
-Conference and Webinar Support: Help organize and facilitate research-focused conferences, webinars, and workshops. Ensure the integration of research content into events and manage logistics, including speaker coordination, scheduling, and technical support.
-Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate documentation of research activities, including project timelines, progress reports, research findings, and financial records, in compliance with research protocols and funding requirements.
Prerequisite Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Education, STEM Education, Research Methodology, or related field).
Minimum of 2 years of project management experience, with a focus on research-related activities, ideally in a higher education or research setting.
Proven experience in managing and coordinating research projects, including data collection, analysis, and reporting.
Strong understanding of research methodologies, data analysis techniques, and academic writing.
Ability to manage multiple research projects simultaneously and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with experience in drafting research reports, research summaries, and academic presentations.
Strong attention to detail, with the ability to track research milestones and ensure compliance with research standards.
Ability to set and meet deadlines, with exceptional organizational skills.
Ability to travel as required for conferences, meetings, and other research-related activities.
At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working on national or multi-institutional research projects focused on STEM education, diversity, or inclusion.
Familiarity with research funding, grant writing, and the process of submitting proposals for research initiatives.
Experience using research software to analyze data and manage research projects.
Familiarity with data collection and evaluation methods in educational or research programs.
