Job Description

The Associate Director, Patient Experience Data (PED) Policy & Best Practices, is responsible for monitoring and influencing the PED landscape across global regulatory, payer and HTA authorities, as well as driving the development of standards & best practices to elevate research methodologies, evidence dossiers, and engagement with external stakeholders across therapeutic areas for AbbVie in alignment with external policy and scientific advancements.

The Associate Director, PED Policy & Best Practices, will cultivate strong partnerships internally to enable effective cross-functional collaboration with HEOR, Clinical, Regulatory, Biostatistics, Regulatory Policy & Intelligence, Government Affairs, and Market Access teams. The Associate Director will support departmental activities and capability builds for the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research (PCOR) team and Value & Evidence organization, as well as support other internal AbbVie enterprise-wide initiatives to drive patient-centric culture and adoption/uptake of standards and best practices for the integration and application of PED throughout medical product development.

Core Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct literature & landscape reviews to monitor the external PED policy landscape and evolving regulatory and HTA/value assessment requirements for PED

  • Synthesize & communicate key trends in PED evidentiary requirements & evolving methodologies to internal stakeholders

  • Lead development of standards/best practices and process improvements to enhance departmental and enterprise capabilities for PED generation in collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders

  • Develop and deliver educational resources for functions across AbbVie to drive the integration of patient voice in development programs

  • Serve as internal SME on PED, patient-focused drug development (PFDD), and regulatory and reimbursement agency guidance and expectations for PED methods and documentation, and educate other staff members on policy applications and methodological standards

  • Engage externally with regulatory and measurement KOLs, patient-centric research organizations, HTA/value assessors, and industry consortiums and methodological forums

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Psychology, Epidemiology, Statistics, Public Health, Health Economics and Outcomes Research, Health Policy, or related discipline (MS, MPH, PharmD, PhD) preferred

  • Minimum of 5 years is required with relevant pharmaceutical industry or consulting experience in HEOR or PED research; clinical outcome assessment/patient-reported outcome development, validation, and implementation; and medical product development and trial design

  • Demonstrated experience / knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry (knowledge of regulatory/compliance frameworks) and clinical trial design

  • Extensive knowledge of PFDD policy and trends for inclusion of PED in HTA and value assessor decision-making

  • Experience in fostering and driving internal and external collaborations and partnerships aligned with corporate objectives

  • Ability to translate external insights into opportunity & application within AbbVie for PED

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to understand, respond, and influence effectively across multiple internal and external customers

  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in rapidly changing environment

  • Excellent project management skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively to leverage other Value & Evidence capabilities (HEOR Strategy, Value & Access, RWE)

  • Develop standards and respond quickly to business questions

  • Travel – Position requires up to 25% travel
