Overview
Rutgers Law School operates across two campus locations, in Newark and Camden. The Law School is seeking to hire an Admission Officer for its Newark location. Located in New Jersey's largest and most diverse city, Rutgers Newark is immersed in a thriving arts and cultural scene, from the Ironbound neighborhood to University Heights, and is a short walk from the Prudential Center and New Jersey Performing Arts Center. Located near major public transportation centers, such as the NJ Light Rail, PATH and Amtrak, a short train ride will get you into NYC and the surrounding area. The Law Admissions and Financial Aid Offices are seeking to add a member who is student-centric, collaborative and communicative.
Posting Summary
Rutgers University-Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking an Admissions Officer. This position reports to the Assistant Dean of Admissions for Rutgers Law School at the Newark Campus. The Admissions Officer assists with all aspects of the admissions and financial aid processes. In addition to reviewing applications, this position also requires representing the law school at recruitment fairs, forums, and panels; counseling students regarding the admissions process; and assisting our Senior Financial Aid Administrator with the counseling and communications with our prospective and current student populations.This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:
  • Assisting in the planning and implementation of Orientation, open houses, webinars, information sessions, and other recruitment activities
  • Assisting with the review and awarding of institutional and endowed scholarships; and performing other duties and special projects as assigned by the Assistant Dean of Admissions.
  • This position requires occasional evening and weekend event responsibilities and seasonal recruiting travel.
  • Serves as a liaison between prospective students and other external constituents on issues related to diversity and inclusion in legal education and the profession as a whole.
  • Under the direction of the Assistant Dean of Admissions, the Assistant Director will engage with current students and Law School administrators to help develop and implement policies, pipeline and outreach programs, and curricular requirements that foster an environment of diversity and inclusion at Rutgers Law School.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision and complete projects in a timely fashion. Knows the mission, goals, and objectives of the University and Rutgers Law School in order to communicate accurate and relevant information to prospects, applicants and admitted students.
  • This position will involve evening and weekend work and travel.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and/or experience and two years' experience working in university administration with a high volume of student contact may be substituted.

Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must be experienced working with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience working with ACES2, Unite, and/or RUTADMIN a plus.
  • Must have a driver's license and ability to travel for extensive periods during fall recruiting season.
  • Experience working in a confidential environment that requires discretion and good judgment. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work and complete projects in a fast-paced environment with multiple distractions.
  • Ability to make presentations before large groups.
  • Excellent writing skills for communication by email and other written means is a must.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters or other advanced degree in any area related to education, human service or higher education administration is a plus.
  • Five years experience working in university administration with a high volume of student contact
  • JD is not required but would be an enhancement.
Equipment Utilized
  • MS Office Suite; ACES2 (law school data management system provided by the Law School Admission Council), ScholarChip (university vendor for processing fees and seat deposits).
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • This position must be able to think on their feet in a hectic, fast pace office environment.
  • Must have excellent public, and social skills with others.
