Position Summary:

The Center for Pre-College Programs is seeking adjuncts to teach high-achieving 11th and 12th graders participating in the Academy College Courses for High School Students program. Through the Academy, qualified high school students earn NJIT college credits in small, customized classes taught by faculty who have been recognized for their commitment to teaching excellence.

Classes meet on Saturdays during the fall and spring sessions and Monday through Thursday during the summer session. At the end of the program, grades are recorded on an NJIT transcript. Course credits can be applied toward an undergraduate degree at NJIT and most other colleges and universities.

Courses offered include: Introduction to Business - MGMT 190 (3 credits); FIN 218 - Financial Markets and Institutions (3 credits); Roadmap to Computing - CS 100 (3 credits); Fundamentals of Engineering Design - FED 101 (2 credits); English Composition: Writing, Speaking, Thinking - HUM 101 (3 credits); University Mathematics B II - Trigonometry (Pre-Calculus) - MATH 110 (4 credits); Calculus I - MATH 111 (4 credits).

Essential Functions:

Successful candidates are expected to develop and deliver lectures, prepare and grade assignments, learn and use the online course management system (Canvas), plan time during the week to meet with students outside of class (i.e. office hours) as needed, and verify presence and submit grades to the Registrar at the end of the semester.

Prerequisite Qualifications:

  • Previous teaching experience.

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in the area applicable to teaching area: Currently employed with duties related to teaching subject area.

  • Professional experience substantial in duration and level of responsibility.

  • Sustained academic or or professional engagement activities within the last 5 years.

  • At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • K-12 experience is an added advantage.

  • Ph.D. preferred with previous college teaching experience.
