Job Summary:

This position is taking a critical leadership role of the balance sheet management for MUFG Bank NY Branch. As VP of Balance Sheet Optimization desk, this role is responsible for leading the development of Interest Rate Risk (IRR) management strategy including investment and derivative strategies, as well as the production and monitoring IRR risk metrics (e.g., EaR, EVE). This position is also expected to manage overall Balance Sheet management and projections along with treasury’s IRR and liquidity risk management strategy as well as business line projections. Another important responsibility includes Funds Transfer Pricing (FTP) governance in accordance with the regulatory guidelines (SR16-3).

Key Dimensions:

  • Develop IRR management strategies

  • Support treasury leadership team to develop short-term and mid-long term IRR management strategies and associated action plans for investment and IRS hedging activities.

  • Conduct research on financial markets, economies and policies and their effects on IRR strategies.

  • Monitor, report and present the BS IRR and profitability profiles.

  • Analyze, assess and control the IRR embedded in MUFG Bank Ltd. US branches’ balance sheets, ability to model all CUSO entities for NII/EAR/EVE metrics.

  • Lead monthly IRR cadence from assumption update, running IRR system (Moody’s ZMdesk), review and report the risk metrics (NII/EaR/EVE).

  • Own IRR models and its overall governance process; maintain IRR model documentation.

  • Manage New York Branch Balance Sheet

  • Plan, execute and review treasury funding strategies, ensuring liquidity risk is appropriately maintained within limits.

  • Input into the development of MUFG Bank Ltd US funding plans, including intercompany flows, MLT gap management frameworks, Liquidity Buffers.

  • Analyze and assess the balance sheet, upcoming customer transactions, including new products assessments to ensure bookings accurately reflect the underlying transaction.

  • Lead FTP governance process and model risk management

  • Work with other team members to manage overall FTP governance including FTP Working Group activities, policy/procedure/methodology review and updates, communication with independent review and internal control functions.

  • Support managing FTP model and its overall governance process; maintain FTP model documentation.

  • Perform related duties and participate in special projects as required from Treasury standpoints.

Qualifications

Job Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.

  • Proven collaborative leadership skills to own and execute complex projects/initiatives by working closely with broad stakeholders and treasury colleagues.

  • 5 or more years of Balance Sheet and Interest Rate Risk Management experience; including experience in calculating NII/EVE/EAR and their model development.

  • Working knowledge of IRR systems such as Moody’s ZMdesk, QRM, OFSAA ALM, LRM and OBIEE are highly desirable.

  • Working knowledge of FTP concepts and related model development and or model risk management.

  • An understanding of risk management practices, financial market instruments and regulatory requirements in a foreign banking organization (FBO) is required, including current regulatory requirements (such as IRRBB, SR16-3, Regulation YY).

  • Strong quantitative and problem solving skills.

  • A clear and effective communicator - both written and oral.

  • Ability to deliver practical solutions in a demanding high-pressure environment.

  • Advanced Excel and macro skills are preferred. Coding skills are plus.

The typical base pay range for this role is between $149K - $180K depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and location. This role may also be eligible for certain discretionary performance-based bonus and/or incentive compensation.
