Wage/Salary: $32.00-$34.00 per Hr.

Position Summary:

Single Stop seeks a full-time TEMP- VITA Tax trainer. The Instructor is responsible for teaching tax law to staff and volunteers, use of tax preparation software (Tax Slayer), and assisting in creating training materials for both staff and volunteers certified at both Basic and Advanced Levels.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Plan, coordinate, and deliver in-person training to staff and volunteers using the IRS-provided training materials and IRS-provided tax software.

  • With the support of the training and test materials provided by the IRS, create a supplemental curriculum that includes NYS tax laws and other supplemental forms used during tax preparation.

  • Conduct hands-on in-person training using Tax Slayer software.

  • Train staff and volunteers on:

  • Client interview process.

  • Adhering to IRS rules to protect client privacy and confidentiality.

  • Client document readiness.

  • Tax preparation and quality review process.

  • Utilizing IRS reference materials.

  • NYS, NJ, MD, PA, and NC tax laws

  • Foreign Student

  • Conduct Intake Training for all VITA in-person and virtual intake sites.

  • Create site coordinate training curriculum and provide in-person site coordinator training.

  • Train on the process of handling tax return rejections.

  • Ensure all staff and volunteers attending training are certified on IRS Link and Learn.

Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or a minimum of 5 years of tax law experience.

  • Certified on IRS Link and Learn at Advanced Level and Foreign Student.

  • Instructor and organizational skills.

  • Ability to design and implement a tax training and certification program.

  • Tax law knowledge.

  • Computer skills for developing training and certification modules.

  • Ability to handle large classrooms of staff and volunteers and ability to teach at a different pace as needed.

  • Good writing and communication skills.

  • Flexible, reliable, and punctual.

  • Must be able to balance competing priorities and work on multiple tasks, often on a time-sensitive basis.
