We are seeking a passionate and innovative Head of Events to join our dynamic team! This is a unique opportunity to lead our Events Planning team, collaborating closely with senior executives to shape and implement strategies for corporate, educational and incentive events that can range from intimate gatherings to productions hosting up to 3,000 attendees, and are aligned with the mission. This exciting position is based in the heart of New York, NY .

Position Overview:

As the visionary leader of a talented team of 16, you will be at the forefront of collaborating with key internal stakeholders and inspiring your team to achieve ambitious goals. You’ll turn exciting concepts into best-in-class productions that captivate and engage participants, and bring a combination of operational and creative excellence.

As a member of Corporate Events, you will be adding value through programs and experiences that align with New York Life’s culture and goals. The team will oversee the planning and execution of meetings and events that will reinforce company values and culture, particularly among New York Life’s industry leading field distribution force.

What You'll Do:

  • Inspire and Lead: Guide your team in planning, marketing, managing, and executing exceptional private corporate events, while fostering a culture of creativity and collaboration.

  • Strategic Vision: Lead project scope, and promote events through creative initiatives, while conducting cross-functional meetings to keep everyone aligned and informed.

  • Execution and Detail Oriented: Oversee the events calendar, manage communications, and coordinate staffing requirements, program plans, and the registration process to ensure seamless execution.

  • Create Unforgettable Experiences: Develop and execute strategic plans that enhance participant experiences.

  • Mentor and Develop Talent: Provide continuous coaching and feedback, encouraging professional growth and building an enthusiastic team culture.

  • Collaborate and Influence: Partner with cross-functional teams and external partners to drive shared objectives and stay within budget while delivering outstanding events.

  • Communicate Effectively: with key stakeholders and external partners to set the tone for each event and create buy-in to concepts.

Experience Requirements & Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience in the hospitality industry.

  • 15+ years of experience in event management or hospitality management at a senior level ideally managing a large team.

  • A willingness to travel approximately 20% of the time and work non-traditional hours, including some evenings, weekends as well as some international travel.

  • Experience in collaborating with internal and external resources to develop and contribute to strategic initiatives within budget and timelines.

  • Strong project management skills with a knack for optimizing departmental processes.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, and strong interpersonal abilities.

  • A strategic mindset with the ability to set goals and a vision to elevate our event portfolio

  • Data-driven leadership experience, focusing on defining success metrics and continually refining the customer experience strategy.

  • Proven ability to unite and motivate a diverse team of event professionals to achieve outstanding results.

  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, all while maintaining a sense of urgency and commitment to success.

  • Familiarity with attendee management registration systems, apps, and event technology is a plus!

Additional Skills:

  • High emotional intelligence and strong relationship-building skills, with the gravitas to engage with executives and senior leaders including the CEO.

  • Budget management experience, including forecasting and vendor relationship management.

  • The ability to conceptualize big ideas and drive them through to execution.

  • A highly motivated, decisive individual who thrives in a team environment.

  • A diplomatic approach with a good sense of humor and perspective.

Pay Transparency

Discretionary bonus eligible: [[cust_merit]]

Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual’s experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition to base salary, employees may also be eligible to participate in an incentive program.
