Bank Street College of Education Substitute Teacher in New York, New York

JOB DESCRIPTION

Substitute Teacher

The substitute will assist the classroom teachers in implementing a developmentally appropriate, child-centered curriculum which encourages learning through exploration and discovery and promotes the development of a positive self-image. They will implement positive class management techniques and strategies. All practices the substitute uses must be consistent with guidelines put forth by the New York City Department of Health and The New York City Department of Education). The work of this position will be fully supported by the program director, lead and assistant teachers with whom you are working with.

Schedule: 8:00-3:30 on days and hours when needed

Pay: $19.00 per hour

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the health, safety and well-being of children in the program by providing close supervision of children during all activities.
  • Promote exploration, creativity, and discovery and stimulate each child's individual development.
  • Maintain a clean and safe classroom environment.
  • Work cooperatively with other teachers, therapists and administrators.
  • Assist in preparing materials and maintaining a clean and safe classroom environment.
  • Ensure that all Bank Street College, New York City Department of Health/Bureau of Day Care, and New York City Department of Education, CACFP guidelines followed with support from your teaching team and supervisor
  • Other duties as assigned by Director
Qualifications:.
  • High School diploma or general equivalency diploma required. Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education preferred
  • Experience working with preschool children in a child care setting and managing a classroom preferred
  • Experience with progressive education preferred
  • Willingness to collaborate and work as part of a team, as well as develop skills in working with individual children, small groups, and the whole class
  • Strong interpersonal skills
