POSITION OVERVIEW

The Student Programming Specialist will enter the Division at a time of growth and creative energy. The Division provides an array of intellectual and experiential opportunities for students to become engaged citizens through its various departments which support student organizations, social events, athletics, theatrical productions, community and service learning opportunities, as well as student support services that enhance their collegiate experience.

Under the general supervision of the Director, responsible for the planning and implementing of educational, social, recreational programs and special events.

In addition to the general duties, the Student Programming Specialist will be required to:

  • Collaborate with the OAS Director and other OAS staff in researching and developing programs and services to facilitate student growth in independent learning, effective self­-advocacy and self-determination.

  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills

  • Apply knowledge of issues and developments in disability-related law (such as the A.D.A.) and in disability advocacy

  • Coordinate all programs in Accessibility Services, and communicates with outside agencies as needed

  • Responsible for planning, developing, scheduling, budgeting, and marketing OAS programs

  • Develops communication with campus community to facilitate awareness and coordination of programs

  • Provide in-service training and disability awareness programming to Faculty, Staff, Teaching Assistants, Tutors and the University community in identifying and responding to the needs of students

  • Conduct presentations including, but not limited to, University obligations under ADA; disability awareness; physical, programmatic and electronic accessibility

  • Responsible for monitoring and supervising special projects, such as a Disability Awareness Month master calendar

  • Work to keep programs on schedule, within stated budgets and functioning smoothly

  • Oversee the program budget, including tracking billing, payments and other financial transactions

  • Create and maintain program records, reports, presentations and proposals

  • Participates in evaluation of student programs and policies

  • Serve on college committees as requested

  • Monitor implementation of program policies and practices

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.

  • Assists with daily supervision of the unit, including budgets, personnel supervision, and facilities/equipment management

  • Provides guidance and advisement to student organizations, administrators, faculty and others on concerns and issues related to students with special needs

  • Interacts with counselors, disability accommodations specialists, and external community organizations to maintain a broad inventory of available services

  • Presents programs and workshops, and prepares communications to students and others promoting the goals of the unit

  • Organizes and provides for assistive technology and interpretive services

  • May develop and/or review individual educational plans that incorporate individually designed academic support services and accommodations within the guidelines of the American with Disabilities Act (ADA)

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
