We’re looking for a visionary Sr. Staff Engineer to join our dynamic Ad Formats team, where you’ll shape the future of industry-leading ad experiences on LinkedIn. In this pivotal role, you’ll collaborate with senior engineer leads across the organization to reinvent the platforms that power our cutting-edge ad formats, directly impacting millions of users. As a Sr. Staff Engineer, you’ll bring deep customer empathy, set bold technical direction, and inspire your team to tackle complex challenges.

Responsibilities:

•You will set direction to platforms that power multiple teams and products

•You will deliver impact by driving innovation while building and shipping software at scale

•You will provide architectural guidance and mentorship to up-level the engineering organization

•You will develop multi-tier scalable, high-volume performing, and reliable user-centric applications that operate 24x7

•You will execute on product and technical workstreams by collaborating with engineering, product managers, designers, other software development teams, and business partners

•You will actively improve the level of craftsmanship at LinkedIn by developing best practices and defining best strategies

•You will design products/services/tools and code that can be used by others while upholding operational impact of all decisions

•You will identify problems and opportunities and lead teams to architect, design, implement and operationalize systems

•You will work closely with and influence product and/or technology partners regularly to help define a long-term technology roadmap

•You will resolve conflicts between teams within the organization to get alignment and build team culture

•You will create a collaborative work environment that fosters autonomy, transparency, innovation, and learning

•You will be a role model and professional coach for engineers with a strong bias for action and focus on craftsmanship

•You will work with peers across teams to support and leverage a shared technical stack

•You will review others’ work and share knowledge

Basic Qualifications:

•BS/BA in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent technical experience

•5+ years of industry experience in software design, development, and algorithm related solutions

•5+ years of experience programming in object-oriented languages such as C/C++, Java, Go, Rust, Python, Scala

•2+ years of experience as an architect, or technical leadership position

Preferred Qualifications:

•MS or PhD in Computer Science or related technical discipline

•10+ years’ experience in software design, development, and algorithm related solutions with at least 5 years of experience in a technical leadership position

•5+ years’ experience with large-scale distributed systems and client-server architectures

•10+ years programming experience in an object-oriented programming language such as Java, C/C++

•Experience with large-scale distributed systems and client-server architectures

•Experience leading by influence, formulating and driving technical strategies across various organizations

•Experience leading a large organization

•Experience with B2B advertising

•Background working on revenue generating product engineering and an understanding of marketing customer lifecycle

•Experience in the design and development of performant, highly available, scalable web applications

•Relevant experience working with engineers across multiple skill sets (e.g. Application/Backend, UI/Frontend, iOS/Android/Mobile)

•Understanding of common performance patterns and anti-patterns in distributed systems

•Active involvement in the creation and execution of technical strategies and roadmaps

LinkedIn is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The pay range for this role is $175,000 - $288,000. Actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years & depth of experience, certifications and specific office location. This may differ in other locations due to cost of labor considerations.
