Amazon’s Automated Marketing and Events organization is building the Internet’s largest-scale Search Marketing systems. The team is responsible for a number of business-critical systems that generates, target, measures and optimizes hundreds of millions of search engine ad placements and organic search listings (SERPs). We apply best-in-class digital marketing optimization techniques like search engine optimization (SEO), landing page optimization (LPO), content optimization to enhance Amazon customer shopping journeys and effectively target them with optimized landing page experiences that satisfy their search intent. We routinely solve challenges related to large-scale distributed services, big data systems and web search services. We build keyword management, data infrastructure, business performance management and landing page experimentation systems that maximize returns through discovery of new keywords and products, landing page targeting efficiency and customer experience improvement opportunities. Cutting edge technology and algorithms including data mining, statistical modeling, and machine learning are the core of our business. Key job responsibilities

  • Hire, manage, mentor and grow a high performance team of Software Engineers.

  • Work with business leaders and product managers to define team's strategical plans, product vision and requirements.

  • Create, prioritize, communicate, and execute roadmaps, project plans, and commitments.

  • Provide technical expertise and leadership throughout product life cycles, influence software engineers best practices for your team and own operational metrics.

  • Work with engineers (SDEs, DEs, BIs) to define technical requirements, architect and execute best-in-class implementations in agile manner.

  • Build and maintain world-class customer experience and operational excellence for your deliverables.

  • Continuously innovate and simplify our software systems and operations.

A day in the life

As a Software Development Manager on our team, you will define and develop next generation Search Marketing systems that improves Amazon's ability to advertise across millions to billions placements on external search engines and optimize customer's end-to-end search journey to drive long-term profitability. This will include working across Big data, Machine learning, real-time Retail CX services and large-scale data infrastructure. Your day will be a mix of leadership, strategy, execution and problem-solving across your 2-pizza team and our broader organization. You will be responsible for driving project success along with fostering a positive, productive team culture, ensuring both technical quality and individual growth. This role requires a visionary technical leader comfortable with dealing with ambiguity to define and develop tech solutions/products that solve high scale, real-world search problems. This will particularly involve handling program management, product strategy thinking and solid technical skills for leading a talented pool of engineers (SDEs, DEs).

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience

  • 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience

  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

  • Experience in building data management systems, business performance monitoring and managing large scale data sets.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
