POSITION DETAILS

The Office of Applied Research, Evaluation, and Data Analytics (OAREDA) provides data for decision support to the Chancellery, conducting a wide variety of quantitative analyses to guide policy and to evaluate academic and administrative processes. The office collects, manages, and organizes data which includes surveys that support the analytic and reporting needs of the University including mandatory federal, state and city reports, ad-hoc requests, grant applications, and major projects, such as enrollment management.

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Senior Survey Analyst works closely with a variety of OAREDA analysts and stakeholders to develop and administer surveys of CUNY students and occasionally, faculty and staff, to support University strategic goals as well as administrative and faculty research. The Senior Survey Analyst also conducts a wide variety of quantitative and qualitative analyses, produces tabular, graphical, and written reports, and communicates findings to a variety of audiences. The analyst will assist in the overall management of survey projects, including documentation and stakeholder communications.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Interacts with stakeholders to identify survey objectives and target audiences.

  • Designs effective survey questionnaires using best practices in survey design to collect relevant data in support of project goals.

  • Identifies relevant survey populations, determines sampling plans, and extracts contact lists from administrative databases.

  • Determines appropriate platform to create survey administration and constructs surveys.

  • Monitors survey responses and communications; ensures data quality and reliability.

  • Conducts quantitative and qualitative analysis on survey results.

  • Develops effective formats for presenting findings, in written, tabular, and graphical form.

  • Analyzes survey results to identify trends and patterns in opinions or behaviors.

  • Identifies and documents issues or problems with survey methodology or implementation that may impact results.

  • Synthesize survey and research results from projects relevant to the critical subject areas and clients.

  • Identifies appropriate data resources and metrics to support the analytic and reporting requirements of a broad and diverse audience of internal and external data consumers.

NOTE: Until further notice, this is a hybrid position, eligible to work remotely and work on-site in the office

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum

Bachelor's Degree and six years' relevant experience required.

Preferred

  • Master’s degree with formal training in survey design and research methods. An advanced degree in a related discipline may substitute for up to two years of required experience.

  • Six years of higher education research experience or related area with a focus on survey development, administration, quantitative research and/or data analytics and reporting.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with electronic survey platforms, especially Qualtrics and MS Forms.

  • Experience with data management and statistical analysis using Oracle SQL, R, STATA, or SPSS (syntax).

  • Demonstrated proficiency using standard Microsoft Office applications.

  • Experience creating data visualizations; proficiency with Tableau is a plus.

  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • Ability to:

  • Translate complex data to simplified stories for non-technical audiences.

  • Communicate clearly and precisely about technical details.

  • Clearly document processes for various audiences visually and with narrative.

  • Plan work and manage multiple and shifting priorities to meet deadlines.

  • Work independently as well as collaborate with a diverse group of analysts and stakeholders

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

Manages College institutional research programs and studies related to the College's mission.

  • Develops relevant, timely and accurate institutional information to administrators, the college community, the external community, and external agencies.

  • Defines and implements research studies, designing and conducting data analyses and analyzing and interpreting results.

  • Researches, develops and recommends policy analyses relevant to anticipated institutional planning, policy, and decision-making needs.

  • Participates in college-wide strategic planning, institutional effectiveness and outcomes assessment tasks.

  • Respond to data, table and report requests from college constituencies.

  • Manage surveys, questionnaires and other data-gathering instruments administered by the Office.

  • Manages a library of institutional planning and research documents.

  • May consult with faculty and students in the design of databases for research projects

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The salary range is $90,375 - $100,329 ; commensurate with education, credentials, and experience.
