The Team You’ll Work With:

Situated within the Mayor’s Office of Equity and Racial Justice (MOERJ) as a companion office to the NYC Young Men’s Initiative (YMI), NYC Her Future will foster positive change and create a brighter future for all young people, with a special focus on young women, girls, and gender expansive people in communities of color across New York City. The announcement is part of “Women Forward NYC,” the city’s $43 million action plan aimed at making New York a national leader on gender equity.

NYC Her Future is an office established to connect young women, girls, and gender expansive youth of color to development opportunities and programs that center empowerment, cultural identity, well-being, and academic and career success. NYC Her Future will build off the success of YMI and work in tandem with YMI to ensure that all NYC youth are advancing and needs are being met equitably.

The Problems You’ll Solve

Through the creation of this new office, the City has declared its commitment to prioritize young women. This newly created office will develop new programs and policies that are designed to address disparities impacting young women of color and their peers across numerous outcomes related to education, health, employment, and the criminal justice system. These programs and policies break down barriers to success and help young women achieve their professional, educational, and personal goals.

The Senior Manager of Program and Policy will report directly to the Executive Director. Duties include, but are not limited to:

Program Strategy and Planning:

  • Develop and articulate the program's objectives, goals, and scope

  • Create a detailed program plan, including timelines, milestones, and deliverables

  • Align the program with the organization's strategic objectives

Policy Research and Development:

  • Conduct and present literature reviews, summarize best practices, and current policy trends in the field

  • Monitor relevant policy developments federally as well as across other states and municipalities

Stakeholder Management:

  • Identify and engage stakeholders, including executives, team members, and external partners

  • Maintain clear communication channels to ensure all stakeholders are informed and engaged

Resource and Budget Management:

  • Allocate and manage resources (people, budget, equipment) across various projects within the program

  • Ensure the efficient utilization of resources to meet program goals

  • Manage the budget modification process

Execution and Monitoring:

  • Oversee project managers and teams responsible for executing individual projects within the program

  • Monitor project progress, budgets, and timelines

  • Address issues and bottlenecks to keep the program on track

Quality Assurance:

  • Establish and enforce quality standards and best practices across projects

  • Conduct regular reviews and audits to ensure adherence to standards

Reporting and Documentation:

  • Prepare regular status reports for senior management and stakeholders

  • Maintain comprehensive program documentation, including plans, schedules, project reports, and spending plans

Reporting and Evaluation:

  • Ensure successful completion of all program components

  • Manage the yearly program reporting process and aggregate outcomes

  • Conduct post-implementation and impact evaluation to assess outcomes and capture lessons learned

About You

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., business, project management, communication)

  • Proven experience as a program manager or project manager with increasing responsibilities

  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills

  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities

  • Proficiency in project management software and tools

  • Knowledge of program management frameworks (e.g., PMI's PMP, PgMP, MSP)

  • Experience in budget management and financial analysis

  • Change management expertise is a plus

  • Have a positive attitude and be self-motivated

  • Have a sense of humor

Salary

The City of New York Office of the Mayor’s compensation package includes a market competitive salary, equity for all full-time roles and exceptional benefits. Our cash compensation range for this role is $ 80,000 – $95,000

Final offers may vary from the amount listed based on candidate experience and expertise, and other factors.

New York City Residency Is Required Within 90 Days of Appointment

Qualifications

  1. Graduation from an accredited college with a baccalaureate degree; or

  2. Graduation from an accredited community college plus two years of experience with administrative, analytic, coordinative, supervisory or liaison responsibilities; or

  3. A four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent plus four years of experience as described in "2" above; or

  4. A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience.
