JOB TITLE : Senior Manager - Fixed Assets and Inventory Accounting

SALARY RANGE : $115,107 - $124,724

HAY POINTS : 702

DEPT/DIV : Controller’s Office

SUPERVISOR : Deputy Director Accounts Receivable & Project Accounting

LOCATION : 2 Broadway

HOURS OF WORK : 9:00 am - 5:30 pm (7 1/2 hours/day)

DEADLINE : Open until filled

This position is eligible for telework which is currently one day per week. New hires are eligible to apply 30 days after their effective date of hire.

SUMMARY :

This position is responsible for ensuring the accurate accounting and financial reporting of Capital Assets and Inventory. The incumbent will be responsible for assessing project completions, reviewing and analyzing accounting transactions, preparing and reviewing accounting entries and assist with the preparation of audited financial statements and disclosures. The focus of this work will be for the New York City Transit Authority but could entail all MTA agencies. This position will coach and supervise staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Select, develop and motivate personnel within the department. Provide career development for subordinates. Provide prompt and effective coaching and counseling. Responsible for discipline/termination of employees when necessary. Review performance of staff. Create a professional environment that respects individual differences and enables all employees to develop and contribute to their full potential.

  • Oversee all activities related to the proper accounting and financial reporting of NYCT Fixed Assets and Inventory.

  • Review project status reports and documentation to assess and ensure proper Fixed Assets accounting treatment and capitalization. Manage the preparation of annual templates and reports for NYCT Fixed Assets and Inventory.

  • Manage the analysis and recording of monthly Fixed Assets and Inventory Transactions for NYCT.

  • Reviews, analyzes and journals the NYCT Inventory accounting activity, including the reserves.

  • Manage the preparation and review of account analysis, quarterly Roll forward and disclosure reports.

  • Provide information as needed for internal and external audits.

  • Other duties or projects as assigned.

  • Must have knowledge of general ledger system.

  • Must have knowledge of Microsoft Application/Excel.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact well with external agencies. External agencies may include the Governor’s Office for New York State, New York City government, elected and other public officials, as well as any staff located at other federal or state agencies or authorities.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with key internal and/or external stakeholders.

  • Must have strong managerial skills to effectively direct a staff of professional and technical employees in implementing the short- and long-term goals and direction for the area of responsibility.

  • Demonstrated ability to complete short- and long-term projects effectively and as efficiently as possible.

  • Demonstrated analytical capabilities and quantitative skills.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or comparable applications, i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

  • Prior experience working in a large, multi-faceted, fast-paced organization or governmental body.

  • Public Accounting or related experience

  • Experience working with contracts and purchase orders (financial compliance)

  • Experience in PeopleSoft or similar ERP system and lease accounting software

  • Familiarity with the MTA’s policies and procedures.

  • Familiarity with the MTA’s collective bargaining procedures.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :

    Required:

  • Bachelor's degree with a major in accounting and/or finance or business-related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge of Accounting/Financing principles.

  • Minimum 7 years related experience.

  • Demonstrated supervisory and/or leadership abilities.

    Preferred:

  • MBA or CPA.

  • At least 3 years in a managerial and/or leadership role.
