How will you make an impact in this role?
The Global Risk & Compliance Organization (GRC) is an independent risk management function, led by the Chief Risk Officer, with the objective of ensuring that American Express operates in a safe, sound, and fully compliant manner with all applicable regulatory expectations. GRC creates and maintains the overall risk management framework, performs independent risk management assessments, and monitors applicable risks.
Compliance Risk Management Governance (CRMG) within GRC facilitates and monitors the implementation of effective compliance risk management programs throughout the organization, and oversees risk ownership throughout business units, products, and processes. The objective of CRMG is to develop, oversee and strengthen the organization’s Compliance Risk Management framework to ensure that governance structures, policies, and procedures are robust, effective, and align with regulatory requirements and best practices.
CRMG is looking for a Sr Manager who will be responsible for establishing and enhancing the Business Unit Compliance Assessment (BUCA) framework across the organization. This role will support the quarterly aggregation and reporting of Business unit and Market performance in line with internal and external expectations. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, support the development and implementation of robust reporting and oversight mechanisms to manage key risk indicators, compliance risk reporting, and escalation protocols through risk committees.
Key Responsibilities
Support and drive enhancement of the risk performance rating framework to encourage prudent risk-taking behavior and reinforce long-term risk management objectives.
Drive continuous improvement of risk governance processes, ensuring alignment with regulatory expectations and industry best practices.
Develop compliance risk metrics subject matter expertise to serve as a resource to Enterprise Risk Management and Operational Risk Management partners and executives.
Produce regular reports to the Executive Committees, highlighting key risks, governance decisions, and program outcomes.
Own and execute the delivery of existing reporting dashboards and lead the improvement of reporting processes.
Facilitate and coordinate the execution of the performance metrics across key stakeholders, specifically, Compliance officers, Operational risk, and Internal Audit
Applies expertise and thinks creatively to address unique or ambiguous situations and to find solutions to problems that can be complex and non-routine.
Implements changes in response to shifting trends.
Coordinate regularly with key stakeholders, providing informative updates and interpretation across reporting results, and effectively escalating risks, issues, and decisions when appropriate.
Support the engagement with key stakeholders across Compliance to understand current state reporting and metrics processes, and future state needs to evolve a framework for enterprise Compliance oversight and performance metric reporting.
Plan, direct and coordinate components activities in support of reporting framework and agile solutions to enhance transparency and control.
Participates in establishing risk management procedures and standards.
Assist during internal audits and external regulatory exams.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in finance, law, business, or a related field. Master’s degree or relevant certifications (e.g., CAMS, CRCM) are a plus.
Experience
Minimum of 5-7 years of risk management experience or related disciplines with a primary focus on regulatory compliance, or related experience within the financial industry or related regulated fields.
Strong experience in risk performance reporting including metric and threshold creation, development of KRI/MIS and RAF reporting, and understanding of the impact of results on incentive and compensation and committee reporting.
Proven track record of designing and implementing enterprise-wide compliance risk management frameworks and methodologies.
Strong experience, and knowledge in Compliance, Operational and/or Enterprise risk Management frameworks
Deep understanding of the regulatory environment and industry best practices, especially as it pertains to consumer compliance (e.g., UDAP, AML, BSA, Fair Lending, and Privacy).
Demonstrated experience in leading governance functions within the second line of defense within a financial services institution, preferably within a bank.
Strong experience interacting with regulatory agencies and managing regulatory exams.
Experience with data analytics and risk management practices.
Significant business knowledge of risk management.
Skills and Competencies
Excellent understanding of compliance risk management frameworks and the three lines of defense model.
Professional experience in handling policy governance objectives.
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and collaborate with people at all levels of the organization.
Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills, with the ability to balance business objectives with regulatory requirements.
Excellent project management and organizational skill, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with team-members and to navigate a complex organization.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills for preparing and delivering reports, presentations, and policy documents.
Experience in delivering high quality work products, reflecting attention to detail.
Must be a self-starter flexible, innovative, and adaptive.
Strong ability to generate business insights through data analysis and reporting.
Ability to demonstrate outstanding judgment and flexibility, identifying and reacting to critical issues in a timely manner.
Qualifications
Salary Range: $90,000.00 to $165,000.00 annually bonus benefits
